IPL 2022 Match 42: Bowlers help Lucknow Super Giants win easily

 Lucknow Super Giants registered a comfortable win over Punjab Kings in a low-scoring match played at MCA Stadium, Pune on Friday.

Punjab Kings captain Mayank Agarwal won the toss and decided to field first. Kagiso Rabada produced a stunning delivery getting rid of inform KL Rahul with a good catch by Jitesh Sharma. Quinton de Kock and Deepak Hooda showed intent right from the word go putting pressure on PBKS bowlers.

De Kock and Deepak kept the momentum going for LSG. At the end of the first six overs, LSG scored 39 for 1. Both well-set batters looked in decent touch keeping the scoreboard ticking. At the end of the first timeout, LSG reached 60 for 1.

De Kock and Deepak hit the bad deliveries away for boundaries to keep LSG on course for a big total. Sandeep Sharma struck getting rid of de Kock who walked away without the umpire giving the decision. De Kock and Deepak added 85 runs for the 2nd wicket. A superb throw by Jonny Bairstow from deep square resulted in a run-out of Deepak Hooda. Rabada struck twice in the same over dismissing Krunal Pandya and Ayush Badoni in quick succession to leave LSG struggling. With that wicket, the second timeout was called out at 109 for 5.

Rahul Chahar got the wicket of Marcus Stoinis with a simple return catch. Jason Holder, Chameera, and Mohsin Khan provided some late-hitting helping Lucknow Super Giants post 153 for 8 in 20 overs.

Chasing a modest total of 154 runs to win, Mayank Agarwal started off aggressively putting pressure on the LSG bowlers. On other hand, Shikhar Dhawan struggled not able to time the ball. A superb catch by KL Rahul at mid-off resulted in the wicket of Mayank Agarwal. Mayank and Shikhar added 35 runs. At the end of the first six overs, PBKS made 46 for 1.

Soon after the field restrictions, Bishnoi struck in his first over getting the wicket of Dhawan who looked out of sorts. Krunal Pandya dismissed Bhanuka Rajapaksa with a lovely delivery to leave PBKS in trouble. Liam Livingstone and Bairstow kept PBKS on course as PBKS ended the first timeout at 65 for 3.

Livingstone kept the pressure on Bishnoi with some big shots. Mohsin Khan was bought into the attack and did the damage getting rid of Liam Livingstone trying to sweep taking edge straight to de Kock. Livingstone and Bairstow added 30 runs for the 4th wicket. Krunal Pandya then dismissed Jitesh Sharma via review for LBW. The umpire gave it not out but on review, it was overturned to out as it hit the pad before the bat to leave PBKS in big trouble. With that wicket, the second timeout was called at 92 for 5.

Chameera struck after the timeout getting rid of Bairstow with an easy catch to Krunal at third man. LSG kept picking wickets at regular intervals. Rishi Dhawan tried his best to help PBKS win but it was too little too late as LSG won the match by 20 runs.

LSG 153 for 8 in 20 overs ( De Kock 46, Deepak Hooda 34, Kagiso Rabada 4/38) beat PBKS 133 for 8 in 20 overs ( Jonny Bairstow 32, Mayank Agarwal 25, Mohsin Khan 3/24, Krunal Pandya 2/11) by 20 runs.

For his figures of 2 for 11 in 4 overs, Krunal Pandya was named the man of the match award. With this win, LSG moved to 3rd place.
