IPL 2022 Match 62: Gujarat Titans seal top 2 spot with a dominating win
It was another superb performance by Hardik Pandya led side Gujarat Titans producing dominating performance over Chennai Super Kings played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday.
Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni won the toss and
decided to bat first. It was not an ideal start for CSK as they lost an early
wicket of Devon Conway with a lovely delivery by Mohammed Shami. Moeen Ali
showed intent against Rashid Khan putting GT bowlers under pressure. At the end
of the first six overs, CSK scored 47 for 1. With that, the first timeout was
called.
Moeen looked in decent touch making life tough for GT bowlers.
Sai Kishore got rid of Moeen Ali providing a simple catch to Rashid. Moeen and Gaikwad
added 57 runs for the 2nd wicket. Gaikwad and Narayana Jagadeesan never
looked comfortable against disciplined GT bowling. At the end of the second
timeout, CSK ended at 90 for 2. Gaikwad showed some intent to keep pressure on
GT bowlers while Jagadeesan also was out of touch. Gaikwad completed fifty off
44 balls. Rashid Khan got the wicket of Gaikwad caught by Wade. Gaikwad and
Jagadeesan added 48 runs for the 3rd wicket.
CSK batsmen were not able to hit any boundaries in the last
few overs. Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni went cheaply in an attempt to hit big shots.
Chennai Super Kings posted 133 for 5 in 20 overs.
Chasing modest 134 runs to win, Wriddhiman Saha showed
intent right from the word go against Mukesh Chaudhary and made life tough for
CSK bowlers. Gaikwad dropped a simple chance to get rid of Saha. Gill also
played with intent keeping the scoreboard ticking. At the end of the first six
overs, GT made 53 for 0. The debutant Pathirana got rid of Shubman Gill with a
lovely delivery. Gill and Saha added 59 runs laying a strong foundation for the
win. Matthew Wade looked confident with lovely shots keeping the task easy. At
the end of the first timeout, GT made 76 for 1.
Moeen Ali provided the breakthrough by getting rid of Wade with
a simple catch to Dube. Wade and Saha added 31 runs for the 2nd wicket.
Pathirana looked deadly grabbing the wicket of Hardik Pandya with a leading
edge straight to Dube. Saha looked composed reaching fifty off 42 balls. At the
end of the second timeout, GT ended at 117 for 3.
Saha and David Miller kept calm showing great skills putting
on unbeaten 37 runs for the 4th wicket. There were 4 changes for CSK
as Prashant Solanki, Pathirana, Mitchell Santer, and Jagadeesan were included in playing XI.
GT 137 for 3 in 19.1 overs ( Saha 67*, Pathirana 2/24) beat CSK
133 for 5 in 20 overs ( Gaikwad 53, Jagadeesan 39*, Shami 2/19) by 7 wickets.
For his unbeaten 67 off 57 balls, Saha was named the man of
the match award. With this win, GT will play the qualifier 1 as they secured 20
points with 1 game to spare.
