IPL 2022 Match 63: RR register comphrensive win over LSG
Rajasthan Royals stormed back into the tournament with a comprehensive win over Lucknow Super Giants played at Brabourne Stadium, CCI, on Sunday.
RR captain Sanju Samson won the toss and decided to bat
first. It was not an ideal start as their star batsman Jos Buttler was
dismissed by Avesh Khan. Sanju Samson and Jaiswal showed intent right from the
word go putting enough pressure on LSG bowlers. At the end of the first six overs,
RR made 51 for 1. With that, the first timeout was called.
Samson looked confident with his strokes while Jaiswal kept
the pressure. Holder got rid of well-set Samson caught by Deepak Hooda. Samson
and Jaiswal added 64 runs for the 2nd wicket. Paddikal and Jaiswal kept
the momentum going on for RR with some lovely shots, especially by Paddikal. Ayush
Badoni provided a breakthrough by getting rid of Jaiswal with a simple return catch.
At the end of the second timeout, RR ended at 123 for 4. Ravi Bishnoi looked
impressive after the comeback and kept RR in check.
James Neesham was dismissed as Ravichandran Ashwin responded
leaving the New Zealander struggling. Ashwin and Boult provided the impetus
helping Rajasthan Royals post 178 for 6 in 20 overs.
Chasing 179 runs to win, Trent Boult was at his best getting
wickets of de Kock and then Ayush Badoni off successive deliveries to leave LSG
in trouble. LSG captain KL Rahul struggled against Krishna and Boult. Krishna got
rid of KL Rahul providing an easy catch to Jaiswal to leave LSG in massive trouble.
At the end of the first six overs, LSG made 34 for 3.
Deepak Hooda and Krunal Pandya showed some intent putting
pressure on RR bowlers. At the end of the first timeout, LSG made 61 for 3. Both
batsmen looked impressive, but a superb combined effort led to the wicket of
Krunal Pandya. Krunal and Deepak added 65 runs for the 4th wicket. The match looked tough for LSG as they ended
the second timeout at 98 for 4.
Deepak Hooda completed fifty off 33 balls and kept LSG in the hunt. Chahal grabbed the wicket of Hooda stumped by Samson. McCoy ended LSG
hopes to take Jason Holder and Chameera in the same over. Marcus Stoinis did not
any singles, but it was not enough for LSG to win. Stoinis and Mohsin Khan
added 31 runs for the 8th wicket. RR restricted LSG to 154 for 8 in
20 overs.
RR 178 for 6 in 20 overs (Paddikal 39, Samson 32, Bishnoi
2/31) beat LSG 154 for 8 in 20 overs (Hooda 59, Stoinis 27, Boult 2/18, Krishna
2/32) by 24 runs.
For his figures of 2 for 18 in 4 overs, Trent Boult was named the man of the match award. With this win, RR moves to the second spot.
