IPL 2022 Qualifier 2: All-round RR thrash RCB to qualify for the finals
Rajasthan Royals provided a dominating display of cricket as they moved into the finals of IPL 2022 against Royal Challengers Bangalore played at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Friday.
RR captain Sanju Samson won the toss and decided to field
first. The pitch had a seam movement making life tough for RCB openers. Prasidh
Krishna provided the breakthrough for RR dismissing Virat Kohli taking the outside
edge to Samson. Krishna and Trent Boult looked threatening as du Plessis
struggled. Rajat Patidar played with intent putting pressure on RR bowlers.
Patidar was given a reprieve dropped by Riyan Parag at backward point. At the
end of the first six overs, RCB made 46 for 1.
Patidar put enough pressure on the RR bowlers especially against
Yuzvendra Chahal keeping momentum for RCB. On other hand, du Plessis could not
provide the momentum. At the end of the first timeout, RCB reached 69 for 1.
McCoy provided the much-needed breakthrough for RR getting
the wicket of du Plessis caught by Ashwin at short third man. Du Plessis and
Patidar put on 70 runs for the 2nd wicket. Glenn Maxwell showed
intent right from the word go maintaining momentum with big shots. On other
hand, Patidar continued his impressive run reaching fifty off 40 balls. A
superb diving catch by McCoy at fine leg ended the innings for Maxwell. Patidar
took on RR bowlers, especially Chahal, and kept RCB hopes alive reaching a huge
target. A superb catch at the boundary by Buttler ended the innings for
Patidar. With that wicket, the second timeout was taken at 130 for 4.
McCoy looked impressive and troubled RCB batsmen with his variations.
After being smashed for 3 successive sixes against Gujarat Titans, Prasidh
Krishna grabbed two important wickets of Dinesh Karthik and then Hasaranga to
leave RCB on the backfoot. It was a superb bowling effort by RR bowlers in
death overs restricting them to 157 for 8 in 20 overs.
Chasing 158 runs to win, the explosive Jaiswal began the
innings with an aggressive start hitting Mohammed Siraj for 16 runs in the first over.
Jos Buttler joined the party keeping the momentum going for RR not allowing RCB
bowlers to settle. RR openers kept the pressure on especially by Buttler taking on
Shahbaz Ahmed. Hazlewood struck getting rid of Jaiswal caught by Kohli. Buttler
and Jaiswal raced away to 61 runs in just 31 balls. At the end of the first six
overs, RR moved to 67 for 1.
Buttler kept the scoreboard ticking and completed fifty off
23 balls. At the end of the first timeout, RR looked in a comfortable position at 81
for 1. Samson also looked in brilliant touch against Hasaranga and Harshal
Patel. Dinesh Karthik dropped a sitter to dismiss Buttler. Hasaranga eventually
got rid of Samson stumped by Karthik. Samson and Buttler added 52 runs for the
2nd wicket. Jos Buttler showed responsibility while Paddikal gave strike
to Buttler. At the end of the second timeout, RR ended at 117 for 2.
Hazlewood got the wicket of Paddikal with a good delivery
caught by Karthik. Paddikal and Buttler added 35 runs for the 3rd
wicket. Buttler brilliant season continued with a record-equalling century off 59
balls. He completed formalities by smashing Harshal Patel for a six to help
Rajasthan Royals record a 7 wicket win.
RR 161 for 3 in 18.1 overs (Buttler 106*, Hazlewood 2/23)
beat RCB 157 for 8 in 20 overs ( Patidar 58, Maxwell 24, Krishna 3/22, McCoy
3/23) by 7 wickets.
