India versus Ireland 1st T20I: Another dominating performance by India
Hardik’s Pandya stint as a captain began on a winning note as they defeated Ireland in a rain-curtailed match played at Dublin, Malahide on Sunday.
Before the rain arrived, India captain Hardik Pandya won the
toss and decided to field first. The match was reduced to 12 overs a side. It
was an ideal start for visitors as Bhuvneshwar Kumar produced stunning delivery
to get rid of Ireland captain Andrew Balbirnie without opening his account. The
pitch was difficult to bat as there was a lot of swing and seam movement.
Hardik Pandya then dismissed dangerous Paul Stirling got by
Deepak Hooda at mid-off to leave Ireland in trouble. Avesh Khan got another big
wicket of Gareth Delany as he went taking the edge. At the end of field
restrictions, Ireland scored 22 for 3.
Harry Tector looked impressive with his shots putting the
Indian bowlers under pressure. Lorcan Tucker showed intent in keeping the
scoreboard ticking making life tough for the opposition. Tector smashed him for 14
runs not allowing Umran Malik to settle. Chahal was superb with his line and
length grabbing a big wicket of Tucker with a lovely catch by Axar Patel.
Tector and Tucker added 50 runs for the 4th wicket.
Tector then kept the momentum going for Ireland completing
fifty off 29 balls. It was a superb knock by Tector while Geroge Dockrell
struggled to hit boundaries. Tector and Dockrell added unbeaten 36 runs for the
5th wicket. At the end of 12 overs, Ireland scored 108 for 4.
Chasing 109 runs to win, it was a flying start for the
Indian team as Ishan Kishan put the Ireland bowlers under pressure especially
Joshua Little smashing him for 15 runs in the first over. Deepak Hooda came to
open the innings as Ruturaj Gaikwad went off field. Craig Young grabbed two
wickets off successive deliveries by dismissing Kishan and Surya Kumar Yadav.
Kishan made 26 off 11 balls and added 30 runs in quick time with Deepak Hooda.
At the end of field restrictions, India made 45 for 2.
Hardik Pandya and Deepak Hooda took the attack to Andy McBrine smashing him for
21 runs keeping the momentum going. Both Indian batsmen looked at ease showing
their class. Joshua Little grabbed the wicket of Hardik Pandya with a lovely
delivery. Pandya decided to review the decision but it was retained as out due
to the umpire's call. Hardik and Hooda added 64 runs in 6 overs.
Deepak Hooda hit the winning runs to help the Indian team chase
down the target with ease. Dinesh Karthik joined in and smashed a boundary.
India 111 for 3 in 9.2 overs (12) ( Deepak Hooda 47*, Kishan
26, Craig Young 2/18) beat Ireland 108 for 4 in 12 overs ( Tector 64*, Chahal
1/11) by 7 wickets via the DLS method
For his figures of 1 for 11 in 3 overs, Yuzvendra Chahal was
named the man of the match award. India takes a 1-0 lead. The second match will
be played on 28th June on the same ground.
