Indian women’s team announce squad for Hockey World Cup 2022

 The Indian team for the prestigious Hockey Women’s World Cup 2022 to be played in Amstelveen and Spain from 1st July has been announced.

Under the captaincy of Savita Punia, they are currently playing in their last league match of FIH Pro Hockey League against the United States of America. It has been a decent journey as they would be looking to end the tournament with a credible position in their debut season.

Rani Rampal has been rested due to an injury. The Indian women’s team proved their worth as they registered their best finish in Tokyo Olympics losing to Great Britain in the bronze medal match.

The Indian team has been clubbed with New Zealand, England, and China in Pool B. India will take on England in their opening match at Wagner Stadium, Amstelveen. The top team in each group would directly qualify for the quarterfinals while the following two places will play cross-over matches to be eligible for the top 8 stage.

The Netherlands is the most successful team to win the Women’s Hockey World Cup. Indian team would be looking to prove their worth against top-quality nations and give a run for the money.

In the last edition held in London, the Indian team reached the quarterfinals losing to Ireland in a shootout after being 0-0 at the end of the match.

It looks like a solid unit as they would be looking to showcase their skills against top-quality nations. Indian team would be looking to qualify directly as they need to beat England, New Zealand, and China
