Malaysia Open 2022: PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy move into the quarterfinals
It was another good day for the Indian shuttlers as PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy moved into the quarterfinals of the Super 750 Malaysia Open played in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Thursday.
PV Sindhu defeated P Chaiwan of Thailand in three games. It
was a closely fought first game as both players took alternate points. The
Indian committed unforced errors as the Thailand player won the first game
easily at 21-19.
Sindhu staged a strong comeback in the next two games
winning them easily by 21-9 and 21-14 to move into the quarterfinals. The Indian
showed domination and did not allow her opponent to give a sniff into the game. She
will face her nemesis Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei. It promises to be an
exciting encounter between the top two quality badminton players in the world.
HS Prannoy created a huge upset as he defeated World number
4 Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in two straight games. Prannoy put enough
pressure on Chou keeping him under pressure with smashes and drop shots. The
Indian won the first game easily at 21-15.
Prannoy looked much stronger in the second game and put up a
strong display winning it easily by 21-9 to move into the quarterfinals. He
will face Jonathan Christie of Indonesia.
It was curtains for Parupalli Kashyap as he lost to
Vitisdarn of Thailand in two straight games. The first game was a
closely-fought game as both players took alternate points before the Thailand
player won it by 21-19. Vitisdarn looked dominating in the second game putting Kashyap
under pressure winning it 21-10.
Satwik and Chirag Shetty gave a walkover to the Malaysian pair
of Goh S F and Izzuddin due to an injury to Satwik. With the 2022 Commonwealth
Games coming up, the coaches decided not to allow him to feature.
