England announce playing XI for the second Test
The England Cricket Team announced their playing XI for the 2nd Test match against visiting South African side to be played at Old Trafford, Manchester from tomorrow onwards. It was a disappointing performance by the hosts as they lost the first Test match by an innings and 12 runs inside 3 days.
After being invited in tough batting conditions, England
could only post 165 runs in the first innings. In reply, South Africa took a substantial
161 runs in the first innings. It was another disappointing effort by the
England team in their second innings as they were bowled out for 149 runs.
England made only 1 change in the squad with Ollie Robinson
making a comeback replacing Matthew Potts. Alex Lees and Zak Crawley will open
the innings for England. Both openers struggled in the opening Test match.
Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Jonny Bairstow comprise the middle
order.
Ben Foakes has been retained as the wicketkeeper. The
bowling department looks decent with the likes of Stuart Broad, James Anderson,
Jack Leach, and Ollie Robinson. England would be looking to perform well as a unit
with a top-quality performance by the South African bowlers.
England struggled badly against the top-quality bowling of
Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen, and Keshav Maharaj. It
promises to be an exciting match as the hosts would be looking to level the
series at 1-1.
England’s record at Old Trafford, Manchester has been great
as they lost only 1 Test match from the last 15 matches and hoping to continue their
impressive form at this ground. They would be looking to start from the beginning
and attack the South African bowlers with the attacking approach that they
displayed during the series against NZ and India.
Here we look at England’s playing XI for the 2nd
Test against South Africa
Alex Lees, Zak Crawley, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Ben Stokes (C),
