Hong Kong joins Asian Giants India and Pakistan in the main round of Asia Cup 2022

 It was a memorable moment as Hong Kong reached the main round of Asia Cup 2022 after defeating the United Arab Emirates in a one-sided contest played at Al Amerat Stadium, Oman on Wednesday.

After Kuwait defeated Singapore with an inferior net run rate, Hong Kong needed a win to qualify for the Asia Cup. Hong Kong captain Nizakat Khan won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start as Ayush Shukla took 2 important wickets of dangerous Muhammad Waseem over and then dismissed wicketkeeper Arvind. Ehsan Khan got the wicket of Chirag Suri in the first over. At the end of the first 6 overs, UAE scored 45 for 3.

Shukla then produced the magic getting rid of Aryan Lakra to leave UAE in trouble at 47 for 4. UAE captain CP Rizwan and Basil Hameed steadied the ship before Yasim Murtaza grabbed the wicket of Hameed. Zawar Farid and CP Rizwan rescued UAE innings with lovely shots trying to maintain momentum. Farid looked impressive with big shots while Rizwan kept the scoreboard ticking. Ehsan Khan did the damage for Hong Kong picking 3 wickets in the 19th over dismissing Farid, Kashif Daud and UAE captain CP Rizwan. CP Rizwan and Farid added 60 runs for the 6th wicket. Aizaz Khan grabbed the last 2 wickets to bowl out UAE for 147 in 19.3 overs.

Chasing 148 runs to win, Nizakat Khan and Yasim Murtaza started off decently not allowing the UAE bowlers to settle. HKG openers looked at ease as they ended the first six overs at 51 for 0.

Nizakat and Murtaza kept the scoreboard ticking. After the drinks break, Basil Hameed struck dismissing HKG captain Nizakat. Nizakat and Murtaza added 85 runs for the opening wicket. Murtaza looked impressive completing fifty off 35 balls. Junaid Siddique got the breakthrough dismissing Murtaza ending 31 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket. Babar Hayat put pressure on UAE bowling with big hits and ended the match with a six to help Hong Kong win the match by 8 wickets with 1 over to spare.

It was an impressive performance by Hong Kong in all three matches. They started the tournament with a narrow 8-run win over Singapore in the opening match played on 20th August. Hong Kong produced a dominating performance as they registered 8 wicket win in their 2nd match played against Kuwait on 23rd August.

Hong Kong will now join Asian Giants India and Pakistan in Group B of Asia Cup 2022. They were with India and Pakistan in the 2018 edition of the Asia Cup that was played in the 50-over format.

Hong Kong 149 for 2 in 19 overs ( Yasim Murtaza 58, Babar Hayat 38*, Basil Hameed 1/31) beat UAE 147 in 19.3 overs ( CP Rizwan 49, Zawar Farid 41, Ehsan Khan 4/24, Ayush Shukla 3/30) by 8 wickets.

Asia Champions Trophy 2024: India Enters Finals With Commanding Win

  The defending Champions India registered a commanding win in the 2 nd semi-finals against South Korea of the Asian Champions Trophy 2024 played in Hulunbir, Inner Mongolia on 16 th September. Indian team began the first quarter on a good note with Abhishek's reverse flick shot saved by Korean goalkeeper Kim Jahean. After the initial domination, a superb pass by Arijit with a goal by Uttam Singh in the 13 th minute to give India a 1-0 lead.   The defending Champions England qualified for the semi-finals with a thrashing of the USA in a must-win game played at Kensington Oval, Barbados on 23 rd June 2024. England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and decided to field first. Reece Topley struck in the first over dismissing Andries Gous with a simple catch to Salt.
