India versus Zimbabwe 3rd ODI: India whitewash hosts in a thrilling encounter

 The Indian Cricket Team held on to their nerves in the final One-day international against hosts Zimbabwe played at Harare Sports Club, Harare on Monday.

Indian captain KL Rahul won the toss and decided to bat first. It was a decent start as Shikhar Dhawan started off brightly with positive strokes while KL Rahul took time to settle. Dhawan was given a reprieve as he was dropped at backward point. At the end of the first 10 overs, India made 41 for 0.

After the field restrictions, Dhawan and KL Rahul looked cautious against disciplined Zimbabwe bowling. Brad Evans got the breakthrough dismissing captain KL Rahul taking the inside edge onto the stumps. Rahul and Dhawan added 63 runs for the opening wicket. Dhawan was not able to score runs quickly as he struggled against disciplined Zimbabwe bowling. Evans struck for the 2nd time getting rid of Dhawan caught by Williams to put pressure on Indian batting.

Shubman Gill came to the crease and looked in great touch putting the bad deliveries away for boundaries. Zimbabwe's catching was not great as they dropped Gill and Ishan Kishan. Gill completed fifty off 51 balls while Kishan kept the momentum going on for Team India. Gill showed his class with some lovely shots off-spinners as well-off pacers. Kishan also reached his half-century off 61 balls and was soon run out as the Zimbabwe bowler asked for a review with LBW. Kishan and Gill added 140 runs for the 3rd wicket. Brad Evans produced another superb delivery to dismiss Deepak Hooda cheaply.

Shubman Gill looked in fine touch and completed his maiden ODI century off 82 balls. Sanju Samson hit some big shots before being caught by Kaitano. Brad Evans bowled brilliantly in the death overs and grabbed important wickets to pick his maiden five-wicket haul. Thanks to a brilliant 130 off 97 balls, 50 by Ishan Kishan, the Indian team posted 289 for 8 in 50 overs.

Chasing 290 runs to win, Deepak Chahar dismissed Innocent via review for LBW. The umpire called it not out but on review, it was overturned to out as it was hitting the stumps. Sean Williams was promoted at number 3 and looked in decent touch putting bad deliveries away for boundaries. Kaitano went off the field due to an injury. At the end of the first 10 overs, Zimbabwe made 49 for 1.

Williams looked in fine touch keeping the scoreboard ticking while Tony Munyonga struggled for timing. Axar Patel produced the magic getting rid of Sean Williams trapping him in front of the stumps. Williams and Munyonga added 75 runs for the 2nd wicket. Avesh Khan then dismissed Munyonga to put Zimbabwe in trouble.

Sikander Raza and Regis Chakabva struggled against Kuldeep Yadav but managed to keep the scoreboard ticking. Axar Patel produced the magic with a lovely return catch getting rid of Regis Chakabva. Raza and Chakabva added 36 runs for the 4th wicket. Ishan Kishan did a brilliant stumping to dismiss Kaitano leaving Zimbabwe in big trouble.

Deepak Chahar was bought into the attack and dismissed Ryan Burl. Sikander Raza showed his class keeping the scoreboard ticking. Kuldeep Yadav produced another good delivery to dismiss Luke Jongwe leaving Zimbabwe in massive trouble at 169 for 7.

Sikander Raza completed fifty off 61 balls and then upped the ante to keep Indian bowling on the backfoot. Brad Evans also gave great support to Raza as they kept the momentum going for Zimbabwe. Raza looked in sublime form completing his century off 88 balls. Avesh Khan got a much-needed breakthrough by getting rid of Brad Evans. Evans and Raza added 104 runs for the 8th wicket.

Shardul Thakur bowled a great 49th over grabbing the big wicket of Sikander Raza with a stunning diving catch by Shubman Gill at long-on. With 15 runs required from the last over, Avesh Khan produced a lovely yorker to get rid of Nyauchi giving India thrilling 13 runs win.

India 289 for 8 in 50 overs (Shubman Gill 130, Ishan Kishan 50, Brad Evans 5/54) beat Zimbabwe 276 in 49.3 overs (Sikander Raza 115, Sean Williams 45, Avesh Khan 3/66, Axar Patel 2/30) by 13 runs.

For his 130 off 97 balls and 2 catches, Shubman Gill was named the man of the match award. He was named the man of the series award for his 245 runs from 3 matches.

India gained 30 points from the series of ICC ODI Super League points table.
