England versus South Africa 3rd 4th Day: England on course for series win

 The England Cricket Team continued their impressive performances as they ended the 4th day of the 3rd Test with just 33 runs short of a victory played at Kia Oval, London on Sunday.

Starting on the overnight score of 154 for 7, England lost 3 wickets in space of 4 runs to be bowled out for 158. Kagiso Rabada grabbed the wickets of Ollie Robinson and then Jack Leach took the inside edge onto the stumps. Ben Foakes did not take singles but was eventually caught by Keegan Petersen at slips. Marco Jansen grabbed his first five-wicket haul in Test matches.

In reply, Dean Elgar and Sarel Erewee began the innings off to a rocky start with lots of edges going past the bat. Erewee survived a close catch chance, but the umpire gave not out on soft signal. South African openers looked impressive putting bad deliveries away for boundaries. England burnt their 2 reviews. England captain Stokes provided a much-needed breakthrough dismissing Erewee providing an easy catch to Root at slips. South Africa's openers added 58 runs for the opening wicket. Keegan Petersen and Elgar showed intent on keeping the momentum going. South Africa went into the lunch break at 70 for 1.

England bowlers kept piling pressure on the South African batters with wickets at regular intervals. The experienced Stuart Broad dismissed Elgar to break an important partnership. Anderson then dismissed Keegan Petersen caught by Ollie Pope. England's pace bowling trio of Stokes, Anderson, Robinson provided a brilliant bowling display not allowing South African batters to score runs easily. Right before the stroke of tea break, Stokes produced a lovely delivery to dismiss Marco Jansen leaving South Africa in big trouble at 146 for 7.

It was a perfect start for England in the 3rd session as Stokes dismissed Kagiso Rabada caught by Harry Brooks. Keshav Maharaj and Kyle Veryenne provided some resistance before Broad, and Anderson rapped the things up to skittle South Africa out for 169.

Chasing a modest total of 130 runs to win, Crawley was dropped off the very first ball. Lees and Crawley showed intent right from the word go keeping the momentum going for England. Crawley took advantage of the chance and looked at ease. Both England openers did not allow South African bowlers to settle. Crawley completed fifty 36 balls and made sure that hosts looked in complete control. With the scoreboard reading 97 for 0, bad light stopped play.

England 158 in 36.2 overs (Ollie Pope 67, Jansen 5/35, Rabada 4/81) and 97 for 0 in 17 overs ( Crawley 57*, Lees 32*, Jansen 0/24) South Africa 118 in 36.2 overs (Jansen 30, Robinson 5/49, Broad 4/41) and 169 in 56.2 overs ( Elgar 36, Erwee 26, Stokes 3/39, Broad 3/45)

England requires 33 runs to win with 10 wickets to spare.

 Thanks to a brilliant spell by Curtis Campher, Ireland registered an emphatic win over the Netherlands in the opening match of Group A played at Sheikh Zayed International Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Monday.   Hobart Hurricanes produced a superb effort to stun Sydney Sixers in the first qualifier played at Ninja Cricket Stadium, Belivere Stadium, Hobart on 21 st January 2025.
