England versus South Africa 3rd Test 3rd Day: Bowlers Day out

 It was a great day for the pace bowlers of both sides as the third day of the third Test match went at a quick pace with 17 wickets falling played at Kia Oval, Oval, London on Saturday.

England captain Ben Stokes had won the toss on the first day and elected to field first. It was a perfect start for hosts as Ollie Robinson went around the wicket shattering the stumps of South African captain Dean Elgar without opening his account. The veteran James Anderson dismissed Sarel Erewee to leave the visitors in trouble.

Ollie Robinson and James Anderson looked threatening with every ball troubling the South African batters. Ryan Rickelton and Keegan Petersen showed some resistance against conditions helpful for fast bowlers. Robinson got rid of Petersen as he left the ball hitting the stumps. Broad produced another lovely delivery to dismiss Rickelton caught by Foakes. Robinson produced lovely deliveries to dismiss Kyle Verryne and all-rounder Wiaan Mulder to leave South Africa in tatters at 36 for 6. Marco Jansen and Khaya Zondo showed some resistance against top-quality England bowling. Zondo showed intent against Jack Leach. South Africa went into the lunch break at 69 for 6.

England began the second session on a great note as Broad dismissed Zondo caught by Lees. Zondo and Jansen added 36 runs for the 7th wicket. Keshav Maharaj and Marco Jansen provided some resistance with attacking shots. Robinson dismissed decent-looking Jansen with a simple catch to Root leaving South Africa in big trouble at 99 for 8. Broad ended the innings for England dismissing Maharaj and then Nortje with a simple catch to Stokes at mid-off to bowl out the visitors cheaply.

In reply, Alex Lees and Zak Crawley started off brightly before Jansen dismissed Lees with a lovely delivery. Ollie Pope looked in decent touch putting the bad balls away for boundaries keeping the scoreboard ticking. Jansen got rid of Crawley with another superb delivery. Root and Pope took advantage of the bad deliveries by Rabada and Co as both kept the scoreboard ticking easily. England ended the 2nd session at 84 for 2.

It was an ideal start as Keegan Petersen produced a stunning catch to dismiss Root. Root and Pope added 41 runs for the 3rd wicket. Harry Brooks making his Test debut looked impressive along with Pope. With the scoreboard reading 107 for 3, rain arrived.

Jansen got rid of Brooks soon after the rain break. Ben Stokes looked edgy trying to play rash strokes. Pope showed intent keeping the scoreboard ticking completing fifty off 62 balls. The England batsmen tried to play aggressive shots giving their wickets away. Rabada looked impressive after a disappointing start giving away 49 runs in his 6 overs.

Rabada dismissed well-set Pope and Stuart Broad with a quick delivery set the match up. England ended the 3rd day at 154 for 7 with bad light-stopping play.

England 154 for 7 in 33.4 overs (Ollie Pope 67, Jansen 4/34) lead South Africa 118 in 36.2 overs (Jansen 30, Robinson 5/49, Broad 4/41) by 36 runs.
