England versus South Africa 3rd Test 5th Day: England thrash South Africa to win series
The England Cricket Team ended the summer with a comprehensive win over South Africa on the 5th day of the 3rd Test match played at Kia Oval, London on Monday.
With 33 runs required to win, Alex Lees was dismissed via
review for LBW. Dean Elgar decided to review the decision after a muted appeal
before the umpire changed its decision to out. Crawley and Lees added 108 runs for the opening wicket. Ollie Pope impressed with his shots along with Crawley. Crawley
hit the winning runs with a lovely boundary to help England register an
emphatic 9-wicket win and seal the series after going down badly in the first
Test by an innings and 12 runs.
England produced some magical performances after facing a humiliating
defeat in the first Test. The second Test at Old Trafford, Manchester saw England
bowlers skittling out South Africa for 151 runs in the first innings.
Thanks to brilliant centuries by Stokes and Foakes, England declared
their innings 415 for 9. Another superb bowling display by England bowlers skittling
out visitors South Africa for 179 to give England an innings and 85 runs win to
level the series at 1-1.
The third Test saw the bowlers dominate the proceedings. Ollie
Robinson, Stuart Broad, and James Anderson showed their skills in bowling-friendly conditions to bowl out South Africa for a modest total of 118.
The first day saw rain arriving after England won the toss
and decided to field first. Due to Queen Elizabeth 2 death, the second day was abandoned.
Marco Jansen and Kagiso Rabada created damage with 9 wickets between them to
restrict the lead to just 40 runs.
After a decent opening partnership between Elgar and Erwee
of 58 runs, England bowlers showed brilliant skills to bowl out South Africa
for 169. Crawley and Lees showed attacking skills to end the 4th day
at 97 for 0.
South Africa slipped down to 2nd place in the
latest ICC Test Championship 2021-23 cycle.
England 158 in 36.2 overs (Ollie Pope 67, Jansen 5/35,
Rabada 4/81) and 130 for 1 in 22.3 overs ( Crawley 69*, Lees 39, Rabada 1/57) beat
South Africa 118 in 36.2 overs (Jansen 30, Robinson 5/49, Broad 4/41) and 169
in 56.2 overs ( Elgar 36, Erwee 26, Stokes 3/39, Broad 3/45) by 9 wickets.
For his 7 wickets in the game, Ollie
Robinson was named as the man of the match award. Stokes named the man of
the series for his 10 wickets and 149 runs.
