India versus South Africa 1st T20I: India too strong for South Africa
The Indian Cricket Team produced a dominating performance on a tough wicket to bat on with a comfortable win over visitors South Africa in the 1st T20I match played at Greenfield Stadium, Trivandrum on Wednesday.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to
field first. It was an ideal start for the hosts as Deepak Chahar produced a
lovely delivery getting rid of Temba Bavuma. Arshdeep Singh rattled the South
African batting line up taking 3 wickets in an over dismissing Quinton de Kock,
Rilee Rossouw, and David Miller. It was an expectational bowling performance by Arshdeep
who showed class on a surface that helped the pace bowlers.
Deepak Chahar broke the backbone of the South African
batting lineup with another wicket of Tristian Stubbs providing a simple catch to
Arshdeep Singh at third man to leave visitors in dire straits at 9 for 5. Aiden
Markram and Wayne Parnell looked cautious against disciplined Indian bowling.
At the end of the first six overs, South Africa made 30 for 5.
Ravichandran Ashwin replacing Yuzvendra Chahal bowled tight
lines and lengths not allowing the South Africa batting lineup to score runs
easily. Harshal Patel dismissed Aiden Markram via review for LBW. The umpire
called not out but on review, it was overturned to out as it was hitting the
stumps. Markram and Parnell added 33 runs for the 6th wicket.
Axar Patel got his first wicket dismissing Wayne Parnell
with a rebounding catch by Surya Kumar Yadav to leave South Africa struggling
big time. Keshav Maharaj showed his class by smashing Arshdeep Singh for 17 runs
in the 19th over. Harshal Patel deceived Maharaj with a slower disturbing
the timber. Maharaj and Rabada added 33 runs for the 9th wicket. Thanks
to Maharaj’s impressive knock, South Africa posted 106 for 8 in 20 overs.
Chasing 107 runs to win, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma struggled
against top quality pace bowling of South Africa. Kagiso Rabada grabbed the
wicket of Rohit with a one-handed catch by Quinton de Kock. KL Rahul struggled
with pitch favorable for pace bowling. At the end of the first six overs, India
made 17 for 1. KL Rahul was given not out but Bavuma took the review, but decision
was retained as not out due to the umpires call.
Soon after the field restrictions, Anrich Nortje dismissed
Virat Kohli with his first delivery chasing a wide delivery. Surya Kumar Yadav continued
impressive form smashing South African bowlers with an attacking mindset. Surya
showed his class against Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj putting them under pressure.
Both Indian batters showed their intent keeping the scoreboard
ticking with ease. Surya completed fifty off 33 balls while KL Rahul reached
fifty with a six off 56 balls. Surya and KL Rahul added unbeaten 93 runs for
the 3rd wicket. The Indian team won the match by 8 wickets with 20
balls to spare.
India 110 for 2 in 16.4 overs ( KL Rahul 51*, Surya Kumar
50*, Rabada 1/16) beat South Africa 106 for 8 in 20 overs ( Keshav Maharaj 41, Markram
25, Arshdeep Singh 3/32, Deepak Chahar 2/24) by 8 wickets.
For his 3 for 32 in 4 overs, Arshdeep Singh was named the
man of the match award. India takes 1-0 lead in 3 matches T20I series.
The second T20I will be played at Guwahati, Assam on 2nd
October.
