Indian women versus England women 1st ODI: All-round India register comphrensive win
The Indian women’s team started the ODI series against England with a comprehensive win in the 1st One-day international match played at County Ground, Hove on Sunday.
Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and decided to
field first. Jhulan Goswami and Meghana Singh created trouble for England
openers with tight lines not allowing them to score easy runs. The pressure
paid off as Meghana Singh got the breakthrough dismissing Lamb providing a regulation
catch to Yastika Bhatia. Goswami produced magic getting rid of Tammy Beaumont
infront of the wicket. It was a disciplined bowling effort by new Indian ball
bowlers keeping the pressure. At the end of the first 10 overs, England women made
just 26 for 2.
Rajeshwari Gayakwad was bought into the attack and almost got
the wicket of Sophia Dunkley. The umpire gave not out but on review, the decision
remained as it was hitting the inside edge. Sophia Dunkley and debutant Alice
Capsey tried to put pressure on Indian spin bowlers. A lovely diving catch by
Harmanpreet Kaur produced the wicket of Alice Capsey. Capsey and Dunkley added
43 runs for the 3rd wicket. Dani Wyatt and Dunkley struggled against
disciplined Indian bowling not allowing boundaries with ease. Dunkley survived
LBW shout given out but on review, it was overturned to not out as there was
edge onto the bat. The part-timer spinner Harleen Deol dismissed Dunkley with Deepti
Sharma to leave the hosts in trouble at 88 for 4.
Rajeshwari Gayakwad showed her skills by dismissing England
captain Amy Jones on a ball that kept low hitting the stumps to leave the hosts
in some trouble. Dani Wyatt looked in decent touch putting the bad deliveries
away for boundaries along with David Richardson. Deepti Sharma shattered stumps
dismissing Dani Wyatt. Wyatt and Richardson added 34 runs for the 6th
wicket.
Jhulan Goswami bowled her quota of 10 overs before the 40th
over and did not allow the England batters to score runs easily. Sophie
Ecclestone and David Richardson showed intent on keeping pressure on Indian
bowlers. Deepti Sharma deceived Ecclestone to end 50 runs partnership for the 7th
wicket.
Alice David Richardson and Charlie Dean looked impressive
with shot making in the last few overs. Richardson showed her class completing
fifty off 60 balls. Both England batters added unbeaten 49 runs for the 8th
wicket helping them to recover to 227 for 7 in 50 overs.
Chasing 228 runs to win, it was not an ideal start for the
visitors as explosive Shafali Verma went cheaply caught by Dean. Smriti
Mandhana and Yastika Bhatia showed intent with lovely shots keeping the scoreboard
ticking not allowing England bowlers to settle. At the end of the first 10 overs,
Indian women looked in control at 59 for 1.
After the field restrictions, Mandhana and Bhatia continued their
aggressive intent. The left-handed Bhatia completed her fifty off just 45 balls
to keep the momentum going for the Indian team. Bhatia soon fell after reaching
milestone bowled by Dean. Bhatia and Mandhana added 96 runs for the 2nd
wicket.
Mandhana showed her class and completed fifty off 61 balls.

Indian experienced batters made the batting look easy with boundaries and
taking singles with ease. Mandhana tried to hit a big shot but provided a simple
catch to David Richardson. Mandhana and Kaur added 99 runs for the 3rd
wicket.
