Indian women versus England women 3rd T20I: Indian women disappoint

 The Indian women’s team could not replicate their performance as they lost to a disciplined England side in the 3rd and deciding T20I match played at County Ground, Bristol on Wednesday.

England stand-in captain Amy Jones won the toss and decided to field first. It could have been an ideal start for the hosts as Jones missed a stumping chance to dismiss Shafali Verma. Smriti Mandhana showed some intent with 2 boundaries off Bryon Smith. Issy Wong was bought into the attack and eventually got rid of struggling Verma hitting the pads onto the stumps.

A superb catch by Sophie Ecclestone resulted in the big wicket of Smriti Mandhana leaving India in big trouble. Sabbihiehni Meghana made entry into playing XI but struggled as was dismissed for 0 facing 9 deliveries with a stunning catch by Wyatt. At the end of the first six overs, Indian women 20 for 3.

Sarah Glenn did the damage in her first over dismissing Dayalan Hemalatha with a lovely catch by Amy Jones to leave the Indian team lagging at 21 for 4. The Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur struggled against disciplined England bowling. Kaur was dismissed by Glenn in an attempt to increase the scoring rate as the Indian team lost half of their side with the scoreboard reading 35.

Deepti Sharma and Sneha Rana tried to revive the innings for the Indian team keeping the scoreboard ticking with singles and doubles. Sophie Ecclestone got rid of Sneha Rana via review for LBW. The umpire gave not out but on review, it was overturned to out to leave the Indian team in deep trouble at 52 for 6.

Richa Ghosh looked confident with attacking strokes while Deepti Sharma kept the scoreboard ticking with doubles and singles. Ecclestone struck again to dismiss Sharma as Amy Jones stumped on the second attempt. Ghosh upped the ante hitting 3 boundaries in an over off Issy Wong. Vastakar joined in with Ghosh provided some impetus. Ecclestone got rid of Ghosh with a quicker delivery. Vastrakar showed her class hitting some excellent shots against Davies helping the Indian team recover to 122 for 8 in 20 overs.

Chasing 123 runs to win, Wyatt and Sophie Dunkley showed intent right from the word go putting pressure on the Indian bowlers. Both England openers looked in decent touch keeping the asking run rate in control with 45 runs at the end of the first six overs.

Dunkley and Wyatt kept the momentum going for England. Sneha Rana got the breakthrough by dismissing Wyatt with a decent catch by Radha Yadav. Wyatt and Dunkley added 70 runs for the opening wicket. Pooja Vastarkar dismissed Dunkley for a well-made 49 bringing back India into the game. Radha Yadav then dismissed Amy Jones knocking the stumps over to leave England in some trouble.

The youngster Alice Capsey looked in decent touch showing her intent to put pressure on Indian bowlers. Bryony Smith gave decent support as both ensured that England reached the target with ease. Capsey and Smith added unbeaten 47 runs for the 4th wicket.

England women 126 for 3 in 18.2 overs (Dunkley 49, Capsey 38*, Radha Yadav 1/14) beat Indian women 122 for 8 in 20 overs ( Richa Ghosh 33, Deepti Sharma 24, Sophie Ecclestone 3/25) by 7 wickets.

For her 3 for 25 in 4 overs, Sophie Ecclestone was awarded the player of the match. Sophia Dunkley was named the player of the series award.

The series now shifts to the ODI series with 1st match to be played at Hove on 18th September.
