Indian women versus England women 3rd T20I: Indian women whitewash England in low scoring thriller

 The Indian women’s team defeated hosts England in the 3rd and final One-day international played at iconic Lords Cricket Ground on Saturday.

England captain Amy Jones won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start for the hosts as Kate Cross produced a lovely delivery getting rid of Shafali Verma. Cross and Freya Davies troubled the Indian batters in conditions that helped pace bowlers. Cross looked very threatening dismissing Yastika Bhatia with a lovely delivery to put visitors in trouble.

On other hand, Smriti Mandhana looked in decent touch with some lovely shots. Cross then dismissed the last match player of the match, Harmanpreet Kaur, to leave the Indian team in trouble at 16 for 3.

Freya Davies got rid of Harleen Deol with a review for LBW. The umpire called it not out but Jones reviewed it and was overturned to out leaving the Indian team in deep trouble. At the end of the first 10 overs, Indian women ended at 32 for 4. Mandhana and Deepti Sharma running between wickets were not great enough as there was no calling. Both Indian batters took advantage of spinners with lovely shots keeping the momentum going. Mandhana completed her fifty off 77 balls to ensure India’s recovery.

Kate Cross was bought into the attack and got rid of Mandhana taking the bottom edge onto stumps. Mandhana and Deepti Sharma added 58 runs for the 5th wicket. Dayalan Hemalatha struggled with her shots but provided a catch to Dean at short midwicket to leave the Indian team in some trouble.

Pooja Vastakar took some time to settle against disciplined England bowling. On other hand, Deepti Sharma looked decent with lovely shots and made life tough for the hosts. Deepti completed her fifty off 78 balls making sure India’s comeback. Vastakar provided some impetus with attacking shots before Charlie Dean dismissed her. Vastakar and Deepti Sharma added 40 runs for the 7th wicket. Jhulan Goswami playing the final international match was dismissed without opening her account bowled by Freya Kemp.

Deepti Sharma pharmed the strike as she gave few balls to face. Renuka Singh Thakur tried to hit a big shot but provided a simple catch to Dunkley. Ecclestone ended the resistance for India as she dismissed Rajeshwari Gakywad bundling out India for 169.

Chasing 170 runs to win, Tammy Beaumont and Emma Lamb provided a decent start for England with positive intent before a stunning piece of stumping by Bhatia resulted in the wicket of Lamb. Thakur then produced peach to get rid of Beaumont. At the end of the first 10 overs, England women ended at 35 for 2.

The Indian pacers Jhulan Goswami and Renuka Singh Thakur rattled the England batting lineup. Goswami dismissed Alice Capsey with a good catch by Harleen Deol. Thakur produced another stunning delivery to get rid of Dunkley to leave England in trouble.

Rajeshwari Gayakwad continued India’s carnage by dismissing Danni Wyatt with a peach to leave England, team, in deep trouble. Gayakwad struck for the 2nd time getting rid of Sophie Ecclestone with a lovely catch by Jhulan Goswami at slips putting enough pressure on the England team.

Deepti Sharma produced more joy for India dismissing Freya Kemp with a simple catch to Deol at backward point. Amy Jones and Charlie Dean steadied the ship for England taking singles and hitting occasional boundaries.

Renuka Singh Thakur got the breakthrough with a superb catch by Deol to dismiss Amy Jones. Amy Jones and Dean added 38 runs for the 8th wicket. Goswami produced peach getting rid of Kate Cross to leave England on brink of defeat.

Charlie Dean looked in superb touch with positive strokes while Freya Davies defended the deliveries. Dean showed faith in Davies giving her strike and inching England closer to victory. Deepti Sharma ran out Dean while backing up as India registered 16 runs win. Dean and Davies added 35 runs for the 10th wicket.

Indian women 169 in 45.4 overs (Deepti Sharma 68*, Mandhana 50, Kate Cross 4/26) beat England women 153 in 43.3 overs ( Charlie Dean 47*, Lamb 21, Renuka Singh Thakur 4/29, Goswami 2/30) by 16 runs.

Jhulan Goswami’s 20-year-old international came to a winning note as the Indian team looked impressive in the entire 3-match ODI series.

For her 4 for 29 in 10 overs, Renuka Singh was named the player of the match award. Indian women created history as they whitewashed England 3-0 in their home den.
