Pakistan versus England 1st T20I: England cruise to a comfortable win
England began the seven-match T20I series with a comfortable win over Pakistan played at National Stadium, Karachi on Tuesday.
England stand-in captain Moeen Ali won the toss and decided
to field first. It was a decent start for Pakistan openers as Mohammad Rizwan
and Babar Azam showed intent to put pressure on England bowlers. At the end of the first six overs, Pakistan scored 51 for 0.
Rizwan and Babar Azam looked in great touch keeping the
momentum going for Pakistan. The leg-spinner Adil Rashid grabbed the wicket of
Pakistan skipper Babar Azam. Babar and Rizwan added 85 runs laying strong
foundation for a decent total. Rizwan continued his impressive form completing
fifty off 32 balls. On the other hand, Haider Ali struggled against disciplined
England bowling.
The England bowlers looked impressive making strong comeback
not allowing Pakistan's middle order to hit big shots and picked wickets at
regular intervals. Luke Wood making his T20I debut dismissed Iftikhar Ahmed,
Mohammad Nawaz and then Naseem Shah. It was a superb bowling effort by the
visitors as England restricted Pakistan to 158 for 7 in 20 overs.
Chasing 159 runs to win, Phil Salt was dismissed cheaply
caught by Haider Ali. Dawid Malan and Alex Hales showed intent against decent
bowling by Pakistan. At the end of the first six overs, England scored 47 for 1.
Usman Qadir did the job grabbing the wicket of Malan with a simple return catch. Malan and Hales added 34 runs for the 2nd
wicket. Ben Duckett and Hales looked at ease keeping the scoreboard ticking
with singles and hitting boundaries. Qadir dismissed Duckett to give Pakistan
some hope. Duckett and Hales added 34 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Hales making comeback after 3 years, maintained the pressure
along with youngster Harry Brook. Both batters hit boundaries at will making life
tough for Pakistan. Hales completed fifty off 39 balls and kept England on course
for a win. Hales was surprised with a lovely delivery by Rauf caught by Babar.
Hales and Brook added 55 runs for the 4th wicket.
Despite a few struggles, Harry Brook hit the winning runs with
a boundary to help England chase down the target with ease.
England 160 for 4 in 19.2 overs ( Hales 53, Brook 42*, Qadir
2/36) beat Pakistan 158 for 7 in 20 overs ( Rizwan 68, Babar 31, Luke Wood
3/24) by 6 wickets.
For his 3 for 24 in 4 overs, Luke Wood was named the man of
the match award. England takes a 1-0 lead in the 7-match T20I series.
The second T20I will be played on 22nd September
in Karachi.
