Denmark Open 2022 Day 2: HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen moves into second round

 The Indian shuttlers had a decent day as HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen, and the men’s doubles pair of Chirag and Satwik moved into the second round of the Super 750 Denmark Open played at Odense on Wednesday.

Lakshya Sen had a dominating performance against Anthony Gingting of Indonesia winning it in straight games. Both players fought for each point taking alternate points till 7-7. Sen then showed domination taking 4 points in succession to lead 11-7. After the break, it was one-way traffic as the Indian showed class winning by 21-16.

The second game saw the Indian dominating right from the word go taking a commanding lead. Sen continued his aggression and never allowed his opponent a sniff. At the mid-game interval, the Indian led 11-5. After the break, the Indian maintained his style of play winning it easily by 21-12 to move into the second round.

HS Prannoy defeated Zhao Peng of China in two straight games. Both players started in an aggressive mood with the Chinese taking an early lead. Prannoy and Peng fought for each point till 9-9. At the mid-game break, Prannoy led 11-9. After the break, it was one-way traffic for Indian to win the first game easily at 21-13.

The second game saw the Chinese making a strong comeback with lovely smashes to put the Indian under pressure. At the mid-game interval, Zhao led 11-7. After the break, Prannoy showed great fight and courage to level it at 14-14 before taking the lead for the first time in the second game. It was a closely fought game as both players fought for each point before Prannoy won it by 22-20 to move into 2nd round. HS Prannoy will take on Lakshya Sen in all India's second round tomorrow.

The men’s doubles pairing of Satwik and Chirag Shetty defeated Kang and Seo of South Korea in two straight games. It was a closely fought first game as both pairs took alternate points till 5-5. At the mid-game interval, the Indian pair led 11-9. After the break, Satwik and Chirag looked at ease winning the first game easily at 21-15.

It was a quickfire start for the Korean pair taking an early lead of 4-0. Kang and Seo looked in much better shape than in the first game taking an 11-8 lead at the break. After the interval, the match went at a quick pace with the scoreline reading 16-16. Satwik and Chirag held their nerves to win the second game with the scoreboard at 21-19. They will Maulana and Fikiri of Indonesia.

The only disappointment came as Saina Nehwal lost to Zhang of China. Saina Nehwal struggled initially against the placement of Zhang but she recovered to take a slender 11-10 lead at the break. The Chinese dominated Saina taking points in succession winning the first game easily by 21-17.

After lagging in the second game also, Saina Nehwal produced a stunning comeback to take the lead. It was a closely fought affair, but the Indian held her nerves to the second game at 21-19.

The deciding game saw Saina showing tricks with lovely shots and putting the Chinese opponent under pressure. Zhang fought back strongly to take a decent lead at the interval. After the break, Zhang never allowed Saina into the game-winning it by 21-11.
