French Open 2022: Satwik and Chirag enter finals
The Indian duo of Satwiksairaj RankiReddy and Chirag Shetty defeated Choi Sol Gyu and Kim Wo Ho of South Korea in the semi-finals of the Super 750 French Open played in Paris on Saturday.
It was an aggressive start for the Indian pair with a 2-0
lead before the Korean equaled the scores at 7-7. Satwik and Chirag put enough
pressure on Choi and Kim with an 11-7 lead at the break. After the interval, the
Indian pairing looked impressive not allowing their opponents to settle.
Satwik and Chirag Shetty struggled as they were hitting out
or net, but the Korean pair managed to reduce the lead to just 1 point to 18-19. Choi
produced an error to give the Indians two game points. Chirag Shetty showed his
class with an accurate smash to give the first game at 21-18.
The second game saw both pairs with rallies with alternate
points at 3-3. Chirag and Satwik put enough pressure on the Korean pair not
allowing them to settle with brilliant shots. Korean pair made a strong comeback
reducing the gap to 9-10. Chirag produced a lovely smash after rallies to give the Indian pair an 11-9 lead at the break. After the interval, the Indian pair looked
strong with net shots and made life tough for the Korean pair.
It was a dominating performance by Satwik and Chirag winning
the second game easily at 21-14 to move into the finals of the French Open 2022.
The World number 8 ranked Indian pairing just looked in great touch with great
smashes and drop shots.
This will be their second final of 2022 as they won the Indian
Open Super Series. They showed their class becoming the first Indian men’s doubles
pair to win the bronze medal in World Championship 2022.
They will face the winner of Ben Lane and Sean Vendy versus
Lu Ching Yao and Yang Po Han of Chinese Taipei. The Indian fans would be hoping
to see young Indian pairing win the prestigious French Open title.
