Sultan Johor Cup 2022: India starts the tournament with dominating win

 The Sultan Johor Cup 2022 which is a tournament for Under 21 began as the Indian team started with a bang defeating hosts Malaysia comfortably played at Taman Daya Hockey Stadium, Malaysia on Saturday.

Indian team is led by Uttam who has represented the senior team. It was aggressive by the Indian team putting pressure on the Malaysian defense. India’s forward produced a simple goal in the 6th minute to give a 1-0 lead. Malaysia showed some attacking moves and also earned a penalty corner but the Indian goalkeeper saved it and then produced a counterattack, earning India a PC. Arjjeet Singh Hundal doubled the lead with from the penalty corner in the 10th minute. Shahmie Irfan reduced the gap to one goal in the 13th minute. At the end of the first quarter, India led 2-1.

It was an aggressive start for the Indian team as they pressed into Malaysia's circle. Bobby Singh Dhami increased the gap to 2 goals by hitting a reverse shot into a goal in the 20th minute. Sudeep Chirmako scored from a counterattack in the 26th minute making it 4-1 for India. At the end of the first half, India had a 4-1 lead.

Malaysia began the third quarter with a penalty corner but could not convert it into a goal due to Razak's error. Boby Singh Dharmi produced a stunning pass to captain Uttam Singh but could not deflect it into goal.

Malaysia took possession in the third quarter to reduce the gap but was unable to convert it into goals. At the end of the third quarter, India still led 4-1.

Malaysia looked in a great attacking mood but Danish missed a shot from a reverse flick. India earned their second penalty corner, but Malaysia goalkeeper Mohammed did not let the goal in.  Muhammed Mamat converted a superb goal in the 52nd minute to give Malaysia a chance. Nanda Tiwari scored a field goal in the 56th minute to make it 5-2. Indian team won the match by 5-2.

The Indian team opened their account. Australia and Great Britain registered wins in their respective matches. They will face South Africa in their next match tomorrow.

  The defending Champions India registered a commanding win in the 2 nd semi-finals against South Korea of the Asian Champions Trophy 2024 played in Hulunbir, Inner Mongolia on 16 th September. Indian team began the first quarter on a good note with Abhishek's reverse flick shot saved by Korean goalkeeper Kim Jahean.   The defending Champions England qualified for the semi-finals with a thrashing of the USA in a must-win game played at Kensington Oval, Barbados on 23 rd June 2024. England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and decided to field first. Reece Topley struck in the first over dismissing Andries Gous with a simple catch to Salt. Nitish Kumar and Steve Taylor steadied the ship for the USA. Sam Curran dismissed Steve Taylor caught by Moeen Ali. Taylor and Nitish Kumar added 34 runs for the 2 nd wicket.
