Super 12 Group 2: South Africa and Zimbabwe 1 point each
It was a disappointing thing as South Africa and Zimbabwe earned 1 point each due to a washout played at Belivere Oval, Hobart on Monday.
Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine won the toss and decided to
bat before the rain arrived. The match was reduced to 9 overs a side. The decision did
not pay off as Regis Chakabva and Craig Ervine tried to hit big shots. Regis
was given out by the umpire but on review, it was overturned as it did not touch
the pad.
Wayne Parnell got the initial breakthrough by getting rid of
Ervine caught by Ngidi at mid-on. Ngidi dismissed Regis and Sikander Raza in
the same over to leave Zimbabwe in trouble. At the end of the first 3 overs,
Zimbabwe made 14 for 3.
A sensational direct hit resulted in the run out of Sean
Williams to leave Zimbabwe in big trouble at 17 for 4. Milton Shumba and Wesley
Medhevere steadied the ship with some lovely shots. Medhevere looked in decent
touch putting pressure on South African bowlers. Both Zimbabwe batters kept the
scoreboard ticking. Medhevere showed his class by taking on Kagiso Rabada for 17
runs including 2 fours and 1 six.
Milton Shumba and Medehvere impressed with their shots
before left-handed Shumba was dismissed with a one-handed catch by de Kock off
the final delivery. Shumba and Medhevere added 60 runs for the 5th
wicket. At the end of 9 overs, Zimbabwe posted 79 for 5.
Chasing 80 runs to win, de Kock began the innings with
positive intent smashing 23 runs off Tendai Chatara in the first over including
4 fours and 1 six. De Kock continued his aggressive intent not allowing the Zimbabwe
bowlers to settle. With the scoreboard reading 24 for 0, rain arrived again.
After the rain break, the target was revised to 64 off 7
overs. De Kock continued his assault on Zimbabwe bowlers. The explosive left-handed
opener was given not out but on review, the decision was retained due to the umpires
call. With the scoreboard reading 51 for 0 in 3 overs, rain arrived again and the match
ended with no result.
Zimbabwe 79 for 5 in 9 overs ( Wesley Medhevere 35*, Ngidi
2/20) and 51 for 0 in 3 overs ( de Kock 47*) no result
Both teams shared one point each as all matches for South
Africa and Pakistan becomes important.
