 England became the T20I champions for the second time as they defeated Pakistan in the finals of ICC T20 World Cup 2022 played at iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, MCG on 13th November 2022.

It was an impressive performance by Jos Buttler and Co in the 2022 T20 World Cup. They were placed in Group 1 along with Australia, New Zealand, Afghanistan, Ireland, and Sri Lanka. Sam Curran's career-best figures of 5 for 10 helped England restrict Afghanistan to a modest total before chasing down the target with 5 wickets to spare.

England suffered a shocking loss to Ireland in their second Pool game at MCG. After a disappointing bowling performance, England lost wickets before the rain arrived being 5 runs short of the DLS method. Their next match against Australia was abandoned without a bowl being bowled.

Needing to win stay alive in the tournament, England produced a stunning bowling performance to restrict Sri Lanka to 141 for 8. Chasing 142 runs to win, Buttler and Hales provided a flying start before losing wickets in quick succession. Ben Stokes held his nerves to give England 4 wickets and qualify for the semi-finals.

England finished 2nd in Group 1 and took on India in the 2nd semi-finals at Adelaide Oval on 10th November. After opting to bowl first, Buttler and Co restricted India to 168 for 6 despite Hardik Pandya’s brilliant 63 and Kohli's 50. Buttler and Hales hammered the Indian bowling winning the match by 10 wickets with 4 overs to spare.

The final at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground was a close-fought affair. England captain Buttler won the toss and decided to field first. The bowlers produced disciplined effort to restrict Pakistan to 137 for 8 on a tough batting pitch. Chasing down 138 runs to win, Hales was dismissed by a beauty in the 1st over by Shaheen Shah Afridi.

England looked aggressive putting on 49 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in the first six overs. Ben Stokes struggled against top-quality Pakistan pace bowling but stayed solid before putting pressure on Iftikhar Ahmed as Shaheen Shah Afridi left off the field due to a knee injury. England won the match by 5 wickets to win their 2nd ICC T20 World Cup title.

Sam Curran was the player of the tournament for his 13 wickets. Jos Buttler was the leading run-getter for England in this victory journey with 225 runs from 6 matches. He scored 2 half-centuries in this tournament with the best score of 80 against India in the semi-finals.

Alex Hales also led from the front opening with Buttler. He made 212 runs from 7 matches (6 innings) with 2 half-centuries including the best score of 86 against India in the semi-finals.

Among the wicket takers for England, Sam Curran took 13 wickets from 6 matches ( 6 innings) at an economy of 6.52 with best figures of 5 for 10 against Afghanistan.

Mark Wood was impressive with 9 wickets from 4 matches (4 innings) at an economy of 7.71 runs per over. He bowled with pace and troubled the opponent batters. Wood did not take part in the semi-finals against India and finals against Pakistan due to an injury.

After being knocked out by Bangladesh in 2015 fifty Over World Cup, the England Cricket Team bought aggressive players like Morgan, Hales, Buttler, Bairstow changing their mindset.

Since then, they have shown tremendous success in ICC tournaments. They reached the finals of the T20 World Cup in 2016 where they lost to West Indies. Ben Stokes was hammered for four successive sixes by Carlos Braithwaite.

Since 2015, England scored most times 400-plus totals in ODI cricket. They posted their highest total in ODI cricket with 444 for 3 against Pakistan at Nottingham in 2016.

England then surpassed its highest total as they posted 481 for 6 against Australia at Trent Bridge, Nottingham in 2018. They recorded their biggest total in ODI cricket during 2022 as they hammered the Netherlands side to 498 for 4.

England then registered their first 50 over the World Cup with one of the best matches in the finals against Kiwis played in 2019. They level the score before being equal in Super Over. The match went to the second Super Over before England won on boundary count.

Under the captaincy of Eoin Morgan, England reached the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2021 played in the United Arab Emirates. They lost to New Zealand thanks to brilliant knocks by Daryl Mitchell and James Neesham.
