FIFA World Cup 2022 Day 6 Round up

 The hosts Qatar became the first team to be knocked out of the FIFA World Cup 2022 as they lost to Senegal played at Al Thumama Stadium, Doha on 25 November.

Senegal started the initial minutes with lots of possession before Qatar showed little domination. Sabaly got the first real chance but the shot went wide off the goalpost. There were chances for both teams but could not convert those chances into goals.  Qatar’s Ismail Mohammad was awarded a yellow card.

Both teams tried their best to get the lead but made use of the chances. Boulyae Dia scored a brilliant goal in the 41st minute giving Senegal a 1-0 lead and ended the first half with the same scoreline.

Senegal made it 2-0 as Diedhiou scored from an assist by I Jakobs in the 48th minute. Qatar had their first shot of the target, but Senegal goalkeeper Eduoard Mendy tipped it wide. Qatar made aggressive moves, but Mendy saved the shot. Hatem was bought in while Boudiaf was substituted. There were substitutions on both sides. The hosts scored a superb goal as Mohammed Muntari scored from an assist by I Mohammed in the 78th minute to reduce the margin to 1-2.

Qatar put pressure but Senegal looked solid with their defense. Dieng scored from an assist by I Ndiaye in the 84th minute to make 3-1 in favor of Senegal.  Qatar tried their best to comeback but it was not enough for the hosts as Senegal won the match by 3-1.

Senegal had 55 percent possession as compared to 45 by Qatar. Both teams had 3 yellow cards each. Senegal had 5 shots on target converting 3 of them while Qatar had 3 shots on target with 1 goal converted.

Qatar lost to Ecuador in the first match by 0-2. It was a disappointing performance by the hosts as they could only score 1 goal and conceded 3 goals.

In other Group A match, Ecuador and Netherlands ended with a 1-1 draw. Gakpo scored the first goal for the Netherlands with a forceful shot to give the Netherlands a 1-0 lead and ended with the same scoreline.

Ecuador experienced Valencia scoring a superb goal in the 49th minute to level the score at 1-1. Both Ecuador and Netherlands had chances but the match ended with the same scoreline. Ecuador and Netherlands are at 4 points each while Senegal with 3 points. Ecuador will take on Senegal on 29th November while Qatar will take on the Netherlands on the same date.

Group B saw Iran defeat Wales by 2-0 played at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, AL Rayyan. Iran scored both goals in the extra time of the second half. Cheshmi scored the first goal in the 8th minute of extra time of the 90th minute while Rezalean scored in the 10th minute.

The match between USA and England was a goalless draw. Iran and the United States of America will be a knockout match to be played on 29th November. England will take on Wales in the first match to be played on 29th November.
