India versus Australia Hockey Test series 2022: Indian men shock Australia to stay alive in the series

 The Indian men’s hockey team stunned World number 1 Australia in the 3rd Test match with a thrilling win played at Adelaide on 30 November 2022.

It was an aggressive start by both teams but needed help to convert chances into goals. India earned their first penalty corner which was converted by Harmanpreet Singh in the 12th minute to give them a 1-0 lead and ended the first quarter at the same scoreline.

The second quarter saw P Sreejesh saving 4 brilliant shots from Australian attackers. Indian defense looked sharp and did not allow them to level the scores. P Sreejesh made a triple save from the penalty corner before the Indian defense kept the ball out. Jack Welsh scored the equalizer as Sreejesh thwarted Jerry Hayward’s penalty corner in the 25th minute to level at 1-1. Both teams played end-to-end hockey. At the end of the first half, the scores remained 1-1.

Australia started the 3rd quarter with 2 back-to-back penalty corners. The second penalty corner was shot in by Zalewkisi as Pathak could not save in the 32nd minute to give Australia a 2-1 lead. Both teams played attacking hockey with Indians showing many attacks but could not convert chances into goals. At the end of the third quarter, Australia still led 2-1.

Harmanpreet Singh dragged the penalty corner, but it was deflected into the goal by Abhishek in the 47th minute to level the scores at 2-2. The Indian team earned another PC in the 52nd minute but could not use it. Shamsher took advantage with a brilliant shot from the Australian goalkeeper in the 57th minute to give India a 3-2 lead. P Sreejesh produced some stunning saves to deny the Australian equalizer.

Jugaraj Singh was awarded green card and sent for 2 minutes. Nathan Ephramus leveled the score for Australia in the 59th minute from a save by P Sreejesh. Akashdeep Singh scored a superb field goal in the final minute to help India win the match by 4-3.

India ends the streak of not winning 12 successive matches against Australia. It was a superb effort by the Indians as they kept the series alive. The fourth match would be played on Saturday.
