Round of 16 matches line-up
The FIFA World Cup 2022 has seen many upsets as teams like Germany, and Belgium did not progress into the next round.
Here we look at the results of league stages and line-up of
Round 16 matches of FIFA World Cup 2022.
Group A
Netherlands finished top of Group A with 7 points. They
defeated Senegal in their first match by 2-0 on 21st November before
being held for a 1-1 draw by Ecuador. Their last encounter saw them defeat
hosts Qatar.
Senegal started their tournament 0-2 loss on 21st
November. They produced great performance getting rid of hosts Qatar by 3-1.
Senegal won their last match against Ecuador by 2-1 to finish 2nd in
Group A.
Group B
England finished top of Group B with an impressive
performance. They began their campaign with dominating 6-2 win over Iran. England
could not go past the United States of America with a 0-0 draw. It was another commanding
performance as they defeated Wales by 3-0.
United States progressed into the Round of 16 finishing 2nd
in the points table. They began with a 1-1 draw against Wales on 21 November
2022. USA held England to a 0-0 draw before winning 1-0 against Iran in a do-or-die
match.
Group C
After being stunned by Saudi Arabia by 1-2 in their opening
match, Argentina won 2-0 against Mexico and then Poland with the same scoreline to
go to the top of the table.
Poland edged past Mexico due to a better goal difference.
Poland and Mexico held to a 0-0 draw before defeating Saudi Arabia at 2-0.
Despite losing to Argentina by 0-2, Poland had a goal difference
of 0 as compared to minus 1 by Mexico.
Group D
France won their opening match with a commanding 4-1 win
over Australia before close fought 2-1 win over Denmark to qualify for the Round
of 16 stage. The defending Champions France lost their last league match
against Tunisia by 0-1.
Australia finished with the same number of points but due to
less goal difference, they finished 2nd in the points table. They started
their tournament with a disappointing loss to France by 1-4 before winning 1-0
against Tunisia. Australia stunned Denmark by 1-0 to qualify for the Round of
16 stage after a long time.
Group E
Japan produced stunning results as they made a strong
comeback to win against Germany by 2-1. They were stunned by Costa Rica in the
2nd match by 0-1. They showed their fighting abilities one more time
as they defeated Spain by 2-1.
Spain and Germany had the same number of points but Spain due to a better goal difference made it into the Round of 16 stage.
Spain thrashed Costa Rica in the opening match by 7-0. They drew
1-1 against Germany before suffering a stunning loss to Japan by 1-2. Spain had
plus 6 goal difference as compared to 1 Germany.
Group F
Morocco finished top of Group F with 2 wins and 1 loss. They
held Croatia to a 0-0 draw before producing a stunning result defeating Belgium
with a 2-0 win. Morocco produced another superb performance to defeat Canada by
2-1 to move into the Round of 16 stages.
Croatia began the tournament with a 0-0 draw against Morocco.
They outplayed Canada by 4-1 in their second match before a 0-0 draw against the 2nd-ranked Belgium side.
Group G
Group H
Portugal qualified as a table topper with stunning 3-2 win
over Ghana and then defeated 2-0 against Uruguay.
They started their tournament with a 0-0 draw against Uruguay.
South Korea lost their opening match with a 2-3 loss to Ghana. There was another
upset as South Korea stunned Portugal by 2-1.
