Mumbai
Indians kept their playoff alive with a comphrensive 27 runs win over table
toppers Gujarat Titans in a high scoring match played at Wankhede Stadium,
Mumbai on 12 May 2023.
Gujrat
Titans captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to field first. It was an
explosive start by Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan putting enough pressure on GT
bowlers right from the word go. MI openers looked in great touch keeping the
momentum going with boundaries with ease. At the end of the first six overs, MI
raced away to 61 for 0. With that, the first timeout was called.
Rashid Khan
was bought into the attack and got rid of MI captain Rohit Sharma with a simple
catch at slips. He then dismissed Ishan Kishan in the same over. Rohit and
Kishan added 61 runs for the opening wicket laying a strong foundation for a
big total. Khan got into act again with dismissal of Nehal Wadhera taking
inside edge onto the stumps to leave Mumbai Indians in trouble.
Vishnu Vinod
came at the crease and showed lot of positive intent. Suryakumar Yadav was in
sublime touch completing his half-century off 32 deliveries. Vinod and
Suryakumar put enough pressure on GT bowlers with big shots. Mohit Sharma got the
breakthrough dismissing Vinod with a good catch by Abhinav Manohar. Vinod and
Surya added 65 runs for the 4th wicket.

maiden IPL century off 49 deliveries while Cameron Green faced only 3 deliveries
and scored 3 runs. Green and Surya added unbeaten 54 runs for the 6th
wicket. At the end of 20 overs, Mumbai Indians posted massive total of 218.
Chasing 219
runs to win, it was not an ideal start for Gujarat Titans as they lost wickets
of Wriddhiman Saha, Hardik Pandya and Shubman Gill cheaply. Vijay Shankar
looked in good touch with some lovely shots putting pressure on MI bowlers. At
the end of the first six overs, Gujarat Titans made 48 for 3. With that the
first timeout was called.
Piyush
Chawla did the job for MI dismissing Vijay Shankar on his first ball to leave
Gujarat Titans in trouble. Kumar Kartikeya got rid of Abhinav Manohar to make matters
worse for defending Champions. David Miller and Rahul Tewaita showed some resistance
with some lovely shots. Akshaya Madhwal struck to get rid of Miller. Miller and
Tewaita added 45 runs for the 6th wicket.
Gujarat
Titans lost two more quick wickets of Rahul Tewaita and Noor Ahmed. Rashid Khan
showed some class with big shots as lost cause. Khan showed his class against Mumbai
Indians bowlers completing fifty off 21 deliveries. He continued brilliantly
batting and put on unbeaten partnership of 88 runs with Joseph.
Joseph contributed
just 7 runs off 12 deliveries while Rashid Khan remained unbeaten 79 off 32
deliveries with 3 fours and 10 sixes. Mumbai Indians eventually won the match
by 27 runs. Akash Madhwal was the pick of bowlers with 3 for 31 while Piyush
