Malaysia Masters 2023: Indian shuttlers move into second round.
The top
Indian shuttlers including PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy
progressed into the second round of Super 500 Malaysia Masters to be played in
Kuala Lumpur on 23 May 2023.
Kidambi
Srikanth won his opening round encounter against Tomas Junior Popov of France
in straight games. It was a dominating performance by the Indian who looked in
complete control with lovely shots and did not allow his opponent to comeback
into the game. Srikanth won the match easily at 21-12, 21-16 to move into the
second round. He will now face Vitisdarn of Thailand.
HS Prannoy
stunned Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in three thrilling games. It was an
amazing performance by Prannoy showing his class after losing the first set.
The Indian lost the first game at 16-21 before making a strong comeback to win
next two games at 21-14, 21-13. He took his revenge for the Sudirman Cup loss
suffered against same opponent. He will now face Li SF of China in second
round.
Lakshya Sen
showed his class defeating Loh K Y of Singapore in three games. Sen proved his
worth winning the first game easily at 21-10. It was a disappointing by Sen in
the second set losing by 16-21 before showing his domination with 21-9 win in
third set to move into second round. He will face Na Ka Long Anus of Hong Kong.
PV Sindhu
won her opening encounter against Line Christophen of Denmark in three games.
The Indian had to fight hard before winning it by 21-13, 17-21, 21-18 to move
into the second round. She will now face A Ohori of Japan who was given a
walkover.
The pre-qualifier
Akashi Kashyap lost to first seeded Akane Yamaguchi in two straight games by
17-21, 12-21 to be knocked in first round. Malvika Bansod also lost to Wang ZY
of China easily with 11-21, 13-21 margin.
These
tournaments is a part of the Paris Olympic qualification tournament. The
doubles pairing of Satwik and Chirag Shetty not featuring in this Malaysia
Masters.
