Malaysia Masters 2023 Quarterfinals: PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy moves into semi-finals, Kidambi Srikanth crash out
It was a good
for the Indian shuttlers as PV Sindhu moved and HS Prannoy moved into the
semi-finals while Kidambi Srikanth could not cross quarterfinals stage of Super
500 Malaysia Masters played in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 26 May 2023.
Kidambi
Srikanth lost to qualifier Christina Adianta of Indonesia in three games. It
was an aggressive beginning by the Indian in the first game putting pressure on
opponent with smashes and drop shots. At the mid-game interval, Srikanth had a
good lead. After the break, the Indian continued his positive intent and won
the first game easily by 21-16.
The second
game saw Adianta made a strong comeback with smashes as Srikanth committed
unforced errors. At the mid-game interval, Indonesian player had 11-4 lead.
After the break, it was one-way traffic as Adianta won the second game at 21-16
to force the game into decider.
It was
another dominating performance by Adianta in the third game as Srikanth looked
out of color. At the mid-game interval, Indonesian had a commanding lead. After
the interval, it was one-way traffic as Adianta won the third game by 21-11 to
knock out Indian out of the tournament.
HS Prannoy
showed great fight and courage to defeat Kenta Nishimoto of Japan in three
thrilling games. The first game ebbed and flowed with both players taking
alternate points. It went right down the wire before Prannoy held onto his
nerves to win the first game 25-23.
The second
game was another close fought affair before Nishimoto won it by 21-18 to force
the match into decider. HS Prannoy looked in prime form during third game
putting immense pressure on Japanese winning it easily by 21-13 to move into semi-finals.
He will now face Christina Adianta of Indonesia.
PV Sindhu
had to fight hard defeating Zhang Y M of China in three thrilling games. It was
a good start for Sindhu in the first game with lovely smashes and putting the
opponent under pressure. At the mid-game interval, Sindhu had a slendar lead.
After the break, Sindhu played some lovely smashes and kept Chinese under
pressure before winning first game easily at 21-16.
Zhang Y M
of China showed her aggression in the second game keeping Sindhu under pressure
and had a big lead at the mid-game interval. After break, it was one-way
traffic as Zhang won the second game easily by 21-13. Sindhu committed lots of
unforced errors as Chinese kept pressure on Indian with lovely shots.
The third
game saw Sindhu begin with aggressive smashes and drop shots that kept Zhang on
the backfoot and took lead at the mid-game interval. It ebbed and flowed from
one end to another with Sindhu leading 20-17 before Zhang saved three match
points to make it 20-20. Zhang committed error with wrong service. Sindhu
earned the win as Zhang hit the shuttle out to win 22-20 to move into the
semi-finals. She will now face Tungjung of Indonesia in the semi-finals.
