Malaysia Masters 2023 Semi-finals: HS Prannoy enters finals, Sindhu loses
HS Prannoy
remained the only shuttler to qualify while PV Sindhu lost in the semi-finals
of Super 500 Malaysia Masters played at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 27 May 2023.
PV Sindhu
had a disappointing outing as she lost to Georgia Tungjung of Indonesia in
straight games. The Indian began the first game on an aggressive note putting
the Indonesian under pressure with some lovely shots. At the mid-game break,
Sindhu led 11-9. Tungjung made strong comeback to level the scores and then played
some aggressive badminton to win the first game easily at 21-14.
The second
game was another good display by Tungjung with some lovely shots and putting Sindhu
under pressure. Both players took alternate points and played some long rallies
. At the mid-game interval, the Indonesian led 11-9. After the break, Georgia showed
her class with brilliant shots that Sindhu could not pick and won second game
easily to win it by 21-17. This was Sindhu’s second successive loss after the
finals of Madrid Open this year.
HS Prannoy
progressed into the finals after Christina Adianta retired due to an injury.
Prannoy showed great aggression and made life tough for the qualifier with an
11-3 lead at the interval. After the break, Adianta kept pressure on Prannoy
reducing gap to 2 points at 17-19 before Adianta withdrew from game due to an
injury. Prannoy will now face Weng Hongyang of China who defeated Lin Chun Yi
of Chinese Taipei in two straight games by 21-13, 21-19.
Prannoy had
a brilliant outing this tournament from the first round itself. The Indian defeated
Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in the first round, Li SF of China in the
pre-quarterfinals, Kenta Nishimoto in the quarterfinals. All these three
matches ended during three thrilling games.
The Indian
would be looking to continue his brilliant form in the finals and bring glory
to the country with another superb performance.
