Sudirman Cup 2023: Groups and Schedule of tournament

The 2023 Sudirman Cup is about to start as 16 teams will take part in the prestigious tournament starting on 14 May.

It promises to be an exciting tournament as the best players will fight for the ultimate prize. Each Group comprises of 4 teams and the top two teams in each group would qualify for quarterfinal stage.

Sudirman Cup is a mixed team event comprising of men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. During the league stage, every match would be conducted while from quarterfinals stage onwards, team that wins 3 matches would enter the next round and next two matches would not be needed.

After the league stage, the top two teams in each group would qualify for the quarterfinals stage. The Indian badminton would look to create history as they have never reached top 8 stage twice in 2011 and 2017.

Indian Team for the Sudirman

The Indian badminton has a strong unit for the prestigious tournament. It promises to be an exciting tournament as Sindhu would take on Tai Tzu Ying against Chinese Taipei in women’s singles while men’s singles section will see them face Chou Tien Chen.

During 2022, Indian team won the Thomas Cup for the first time. The Indian badminton team won bronze medal for first time in mixed team championship this year.

Asia Champions Trophy 2024: India Enters Finals With Commanding Win

  The defending Champions India registered a commanding win in the 2 nd semi-finals against South Korea of the Asian Champions Trophy 2024 played in Hulunbir, Inner Mongolia on 16 th September. Indian team began the first quarter on a good note with Abhishek's reverse flick shot saved by Korean goalkeeper Kim Jahean. After the initial domination, a superb pass by Arijit with a goal by Uttam Singh in the 13 th minute to give India a 1-0 lead. Soon after, Korea’s two penalty corners before the third penalty corner as the shot hits Sumit’s body.   At the end of the first quarter, India led 1-0. The second quarter began off superbly for the Indian team as they put pressure on the Korean defense. Harmanpreet Singh converted the second penalty corner in the 19 th minute to double the lead.   The defending Champions England qualified for the semi-finals with a thrashing of the USA in a must-win game played at Kensington Oval, Barbados on 23 rd June 2024. England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and decided to field first. Reece Topley struck in the first over dismissing Andries Gous with a simple catch to Salt. Nitish Kumar and Steve Taylor steadied the ship for the USA. Sam Curran dismissed Steve Taylor caught by Moeen Ali. Taylor and Nitish Kumar added 34 runs for the 2 nd wicket. It was a disciplined bowling effort by the England bowlers as they kept picking wickets at regular intervals. Sam Curran struck to dismiss Harmeet Singh.
