Ashes 2023 Test 1 Day 3: Match Hangs in The Balance On a rain curtailed day
The third
day of first test between England and Australia hangs in the balance played at
Edgbaston, Birmingham on 18 June 2023.
Starting on
the overnight score of 311 for 5, Alex Carey survived a few anxious moments
while Usman Khawaja looked solid in the initial stages of the first session.
The veteran James Anderson produced a stunning delivery to get rid of Alex
Carey to end a brilliant partnership of 118 runs for the 6th wicket.
Pat Cummins looked in great touch taking on Moeen Ali and showed intent.
Ollie
Robinson made use the aggressive field set placement and produced a beauty to
dismiss well-set Usman Khawaja. Khawaja and Pat Cummins added 34 runs for the 7th
wicket. Robinson struck once more dismissing Nathan Lyon with short tactics
providing simple catch to Duckett. England did brilliantly to wrap the
Australian innings for 386 giving hosts a slender 7 runs lead. With that, the
umpires called it lunch.
Ben Duckett
looked in decent touch with some lovely shots keeping the scoreboard ticking
while Zak Crawley struggled before rain stopped at 26 for 0.
Pat Cummins
got the breakthrough for Australia dismissing Duckett with a sharp catch by
Cameron Green at gully. Scott Boland produced a beauty to get rid of Zak
Crawley to bring Australia back into the game. Joe Root survived a brilliant
spell of bowling by Cummins and Boland in overcast bowling conditions before
rain came with scoreboard reading 28 for 2. There was no play possible due to
heavy downpour. The match did not start as the umpires abandoned it due to
rain.
It promises
to be an exciting battle as England is 35 runs ahead with 8 wickets remaining.
The match hangs in the balance as both teams have a chance to win the match.
England 393
for 8 d in 78 overs (Joe Root 118*, Crawley 61, Nathan Lyon 4/149) and 28 for 2
