Indonesia Open Semi-finals: Satwik/Chirag Shetty enters finals, HS Prannoy knocked out.

The men’s doubles pair of Satwik/Chirag Shetty progressed into the finals while HS Prannoy lost in the semi-finals of Super 1000 Indonesia Open 2023 played in Jakarta on 17 June.

SatwikRankiReddy/Chirag Shetty cameback winning against Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae of South Korea. The first game saw South Korean pair showing their class putting pressure on the Indian pair with lovely shots. At the mid-game interval, Kang and Seo had 11-6 lead. After the break, Satwik/Chirag tried to make a comeback, but it was the South Korean pair winning first game 21-17.

The second game saw the Indian pair fighting back strongly putting the South Korean pair under pressure with smashes. It was a dominating performance by Satwik/Chirag taking 11-4 lead at the break. After the break, the South Korean pair stormed back into match with some lovely points and keeping Indian pair under pressure. Satwik/Chirag held onto their nerves to win the second game 21-19 to force the match into decider.

It was a closely fought affair initially in the third game with both pairs taking alternate points till 5-5. The Indian pair showed their class keeping South Korean pair under pressure to take 11-5 lead at the break. After the interval, Kang and Seo looked impressive staging comeback with successive points and made life tough for the Indian pair. Satwik/Chirag Shetty held onto their nerves as their opponents hit the shuttle out winning it by 21-18.

With this win, Satwik/Chirag Shetty reached their first Super 1000 finals. They will now face World Champions Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik of Malaysia.

It was curtains for HS Prannoy who lost to Victor Axelsen of Denmark in two straight games. The Indian struggled with his shots losing in straight games 15-21, 15-21. Prannoy performed brilliantly in this tournament reaching the semi-finals.

The Indian badminton fans would be hoping that Satwik/Chirag Shetty win their first ever Super 1000 title on 18 June 2023.

  The defending Champions India registered a commanding win in the 2 nd semi-finals against South Korea of the Asian Champions Trophy 2024 played in Hulunbir, Inner Mongolia on 16 th September. Indian team began the first quarter on a good note with Abhishek's reverse flick shot saved by Korean goalkeeper Kim Jahean. After the initial domination, a superb pass by Arijit with a goal by Uttam Singh in the 13 th minute to give India a 1-0 lead.   The defending Champions England qualified for the semi-finals with a thrashing of the USA in a must-win game played at Kensington Oval, Barbados on 23 rd June 2024. England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and decided to field first. Reece Topley struck in the first over dismissing Andries Gous with a simple catch to Salt. Nitish Kumar and Steve Taylor steadied the ship for the USA. Sam Curran dismissed Steve Taylor caught by Moeen Ali. Taylor and Nitish Kumar added 34 runs for the 2 nd wicket.
