Thailand Open 2023: Lakshya Sen loses in the semi-finals.

 

The Indian challenge ended as Lakshya Sen loses out in the semi-finals to Vitisdarn of Super 500 Thailand Open played on 3 June 2023.

It was a closely fought first game between Sen and Vitisdarn initially before Lakshya Sen took points in succession to take 11-6 lead at the break. After the interval, Thailand player showed great spirit to take 4 points in succession. Lakshya Sen kept pressure on Vitisdarn winning the first game easily at 21-13.

The second was also a closely fought affair between these two players till 10 points. At the mid-game interval, Vitisdarn took slender 11-10 lead. After the break, Sen and Vitisdarn were involved in long rallies and drop shots. Thailand player upped his game putting the Indian under pressure and won the second game easily by 21-17 to force the match into decider.

Kulvanut began the third game on an aggressive not taking 5-2 lead initially before Lakshya Sen showed great fighting spirit and fought with Thailand player. Thailand player took lead at the mid-game break. Sen looked out of steam as long rallies took place that resulted in Vitisdarn taking advantage. Vitisdarn won the deciding game by 21-13 to knock out the Indian out of the tournament.

It was his first semi-finals of the year for Lakshya Sen. He lost out in the quarterfinals of Indonesia Masters this year. It will bolster his confidence ahead of major tournaments coming up. Lakshya Sen was the only Indian to progress into the last 4 stage while Kiran George made it into the quarterfinals of this tournament. PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth lost in the first round while Saina Nehwal, Asmita Chaila, Satwik and Chirag lost in the second round.

The Indian shuttlers will now take part in the Super 750 Singapore Open starting from 6 June onwards.
