India Tour of West Indies 1st 3rd Day: India registers emphatic win.
The Indian Cricket Team began the 2023/25 WTC cycle registered innings win over the listless West Indies side on the 3rd day of the 1st Test match played at Windsor Park, Dominica on 14 July 2023.
Starting on the overnight score of 312 for 2, Yashasvi Jaiswal
and Virat Kohli began the day on a cautious note taking singles and hitting occasional
boundaries. Jaiswal completed his 150 off 360 deliveries keeping the momentum
going for India. Alazzari Joseph eventually got the breakthrough dismissing
Jaiswal with a simple catch to Da Silva. Jaiswal and Kohli added 110 runs for 3rd
wicket.
Kemar Roach's resistance paid off as he produced a beauty to
dismiss Ajiyanka Rahane. Virat Kohli looked solid enough completing his
half-century off 147 deliveries. India went into lunch break at 400 for 4. Soon
after the lunch break, Cornwall dismissed Kohli with a sharp catch to Blackwood
at leg slip. Jadeja and Kohli added 49 runs for the 5th wicket.
Ishan Kishan struggled before getting off the mark on his 20th
delivery as Rohit Sharma declared their innings on 421 for 5.
Mohammed Siraj and Jaydev Unadkat began the first few overs initially
before the spin twin duo of Jadeja and Ashwin was bought into bowl. Ravindra
Jadeja dismissed Tangerine Chanderpaul to get the initial breakthrough.
Ravichandran Ashwin got his first wicket this innings dismissing West Indies
captain Kraigg Braithwaite with a sharp catch by Rahane at slips to leave West
Indies in tatters. West Indies went into the tea break at 27 for 2.
R Ashwin wreaked havoc with another wicket of Blackwood to
put enough pressure on the West Indies batting lineup. Soon after, Jadeja struck
to dismiss Reifer. Da Silva and Athanaze showed some resistance against top Indian
bowling before Siraj produced a beauty to dismiss Da Silva leaving West Indies
in dire trouble at 58 for 5.
West Indies debutant Athanze looked impressive but could not
convert into big scores. R Ashwin put on an excellent display of bowling picking 7
wickets for 71 in 21.3 overs to skittle out West Indies for 130 giving India an
innings and 141 runs.
India 421 for 5 in 152.2 overs (Jaiswal 171, Kohli 76, Rohit
Sharma 103, Joseph 1/80, Warrican 1/82) beat West Indies 150 in 64.3 overs (
Alick Athanaze 47, Ashwin 5/60, Jadeja 3/26) 130 in 50.3 overs ( Athanze 28, Holder
20*, Ashwin 7/71) by innings and 141 runs.
For his 171 during his debut innings, Yashavi Jaiswal was named
the player of the match. India takes a 1-0 lead in 2-match series. The second
Test match will be played on 20 July at Port of Spain, Trinidad.
