India tour of West Indies 2023 Test 1 Day 2: Yashvi Jaiswal stole the show.

The Indian team continued their dominating performance as they ended the 2nd day of the 1st Test match in a strong position played at Windsor Park, Dominica on 13 July 2023.

Starting on the overnight score of 80 for 0, Yashvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma began cautiously against disciplined West Indies bowling. Rakheem Cornwall troubled both Indian batters with lots of turn and bounce going past the edge of the bat quite a number of times. Rohit Sharma completed his half-century off 106 deliveries. After surviving anxious moments, Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma made batting look easy keeping the scoreboard ticking as India ended the first session at 146 for 0.

West Indies' bowling lineup was dealt a major blow as Rakheem Cornwall went off the field due to a chest infection. Both batters looked at ease taking singles and hitting occasional boundaries. Jaiswal joins the list of elite Indian cricketers to score a century on Test debut. He completed his milestone off 215 deliveries while Rohit Sharma also reached 100 off 220 balls. Athanaze got his maiden Test wicket dismissing Indian captain Rohit with a review. The umpire called it not out but on review it was overturned to out as it was hitting the edge. Rohit and Jaiswal added 229 runs for the opening partnership.

Shubman Gill came at number 3 and looked a little edgy with almost a mix-up. He was eventually dismissed providing a simple catch to Athanaze giving some hope to West Indies. India went into the tea break in a strong position at 245 for 2.

Jaiswal and Virat Kohli looked comfortable at the crease keeping the scoreboard ticking as the pitch was very hard to score. Jaiswal and Kohli showed their class by leaving good balls away while hitting good shots. West Indies captain Braithwaite took the second new ball in the 101st over but could not yield any results. Jaiswal and Virat Kohli ensured that India end 2nd day at 312 for 2 with Jaiswal on 143 while Kohli on 36. Both batters put on unbeaten 72 runs for the 3rd wicket.

India 312 for 2 in 113 overs (Jaiswal 143*, Rohit Sharma 103, Warrican 1/82) lead West Indies 150 in 64.3 overs ( Alick Athanaze 47, Ashwin 5/60, Jadeja 3/26) by 162 runs.
