Super 300 US Open: Top Indian shuttlers qualify for the second round
The top Indian shuttlers including PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen progressed into the second round with comprehensive wins of the Super 300 US Open played at Council Bluffs, Iowa on 12 July 2023.
Lakshya Sen eased past his Finland opponent K Kolionjen in straight
games. The Indian dominated looked in complete control right from the word go
winning the first game easily by 21-8. Despite committing few unforced errors
in the dying moments of the second game, Sen won it comfortably by 21-16 to move into
the next round. He will next face J Louda.
The qualifier Sankar Subramanian defeated eight-seeded Nhat Nguyen
of Ireland in straight games. It was an impressive performance by the young Indian
looking sharp winning the match by 21-11, 21-16 to move into the second round.
He will now face Misha Zilberman.
Sai Praneeth went down fighting to All-England Champion Li
Shifeng in three games. It was impressive by Praneeth in the first game
looking sharp winning it by 21-16. The second game saw Li make a strong comeback
to win it by 21-14 to move the match into the decider. It was a closely fought
affair as both players fought for each point, but Li held onto his nerves to
win it by 21-19 to knock the Indian out.
PV Sindhu eased past his US opponent D Gupta in straight
games. It was an impressive performance by the Indian winning it by 21-15,
21-10 to move into the second round. She will now face Sung S Y.
Lakshya Sen and PV Sindhu will be looking to continue their
winning momentum in the coming rounds. Sankar Subramanian played some lovely
badminton against higher seeded player coming from the qualifying rounds.
If Lakshya Sen and Subramanian win their respective rounds,
they will face each other in the quarterfinal stage.
