Super 300 Australian Open 2023: Indian shuttlers shine

 The Indian shuttlers had a great day with most of them progressing into the second round of the Super 300 Australian Open played at State Sports Centre, Sydney on 2nd August 2023.

Kidambi Srikanth produced a dominating performance upsetting higher-ranked Kenta Nishimoto in straight games. The Indian looked in complete control with lovely shots and put the Japanese player under pressure winning it by 21-18, 21-7 to move into the second round. He will face pre-qualifier Su L-y of Chinese Taipei.

Pranshu Rajawat had an easy outing getting past local player Nathan Tang in two straight games by 21-12, 21-16. It was an impressive performance by the Indian and will face Wang T-w of Chinese Taipei.

HS Prannoy fought it to defeat Lee Chik Yu of Hong Kong in three games. It was a closely fought affair in the first game before Prannoy won it by 21-18. The second game saw Lee showing his class and winning it by 21-16 to force the game into decider. Prannoy cameback strongly in the final game with an impressive 21-15 win. He will now face Chi Y-j of Chinese Taipei.

Kiran George had a 5-0 lead in the first game before Lakshya Sen decided to withdraw from the game due to an injury. He will face the number 1 seed Anthony Gingting.

The biggest upset was Mithun Manjunath defeating former Champion Loh Kean Yiew of Singapore. Mithun showed his class in closely fought affairs to win the match by 21-19, 21-19. He will now face Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia.

PV Sindhu had an easy outing against counterpart Asmita Chaila in two straight games. The first game was a close-fought affair before winning it by 21-18. Sindhu showed her class with dominating 21-13 victory in the second game to move into the second round. She will now face Aakarshi Kashyap who defeated Goh J W of Malaysia in two straight games by 21-15, 21-17.

Malvika Bansod and Tasma Mir lost their respective matches in straight games. The first game was a closely fought as Pai won the first game 22-20. Bansod looked out of color with an 11-21 loss in the second game. Tasma Mir lost to Indonesian player KAC Devi in straight games by 13-21, 7-21.  

Sumeeth Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa lost to H Midorikawa/Saito in two straight games by 13-21, 12-21. The other mixed doubles pairing of Rohan Kapoor and Sikki Reddy lost to Seo S-j and Chae Y-j of South Korea in two straight games by 14-21, 18-21.
