All England Badminton Championship 2024: Lakshya Sen Stun Lee To Ensure Medal
Lakshya Sen
produced a stunning effort to beat Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia in three thrilling
games during the quarterfinals of the All-England Badminton Championship 2024
played in Birmingham on 15th March 2024.
The Indian
began the first game on an aggressive note taking a 5-1 lead. Sen looked in control
with drop shots that put Malaysian off guard. Lee made a strong comeback to put
pressure on Lakshya. Sen showed his skills by taking an 11-7 lead at the
mid-game break. After the break, Lee made a strong comeback with some lovely
smashes and leveled the score at 12-12. The match ebbed and flowed as Lee took
a 20-17 lead before Sen saved three match points to level the scores at 20-20.
Lee held onto his nerves to win the first game at 22-20.
It was a
shaky start for Lakshya Sen as he committed a few unforced errors. After the initial
stages, Sen took 5 wickets in succession to take the lead. Both players fought
for each point, but the Indian had an 11-9 lead at the mid-game break. After
the break, there were long rallies as Lee continued to stage a comeback. Sen
then produced a tremendous fighting spirit as the match was level at 16-16. The
Indian made sure that he did not allow comeback winning the second game with a scoreline
of 21-16.
The third and
deciding game was a closely fought encounter right from the word go. Both
players committed lots of unforced errors and played some brilliant badminton. Lakshya
Sen produced a superb rally as Lee defended 5 smashes before Sen hit the sixth
one to take an 11-8 lead at the break. After the break, the match ebbed and
flowed once again with Sen showing his skills. Lee then came back taking 4
points in a row to level the scores at 19-19. It was a superb game of badminton
as Sen won the third and deciding game by 21-19 to ensure India at least a bronze
medal.
Lakshya Sen
would be hoping to continue his superb form as he will face Jonathan Christie in
the semi-finals today.
