WPL 2024 Match 9: Mumbai Indians Cruise To Easy Win Over RCB

Indians returned to winning ways as they registered a comfortable win over
Royal Challengers Bangalore played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on 2nd
March 2024.
MI stand-in
captain Nat Sciver Brunt won the toss and decided to field first. Smriti
Mandhana and Sophie Devine struggled initially against disciplined MI bowling.
Issy Wong got the breakthrough dismissing Mandhana with a good catch by Brunt.
S Meghana looked impressive with some positive strokes before Brunt got rid of
her with a simple catch to Ishaque at short third man. Ishaque struck by dismissing
Devine leaving RCB in trouble. At the end of the first six overs, RCB scored 34
for 3.
Pooja
Vastkar dismissed Richa Ghosh with a sharp catch by Sanjana. With that wicket,
RCB went into the first timeout at 42 for 4. Ellyse Perry showed some class putting
some pressure on MI bowlers along with Sophie Molineux. Both batters kept the
scoreboard ticking before Vastkar shattered the stumps of Molineux. Perry
looked in good touch along with Wareham. RCB ended 2nd timeout at
106 for 5.
MI bowlers
kept tight lines and lengths not allowing RCB batters to score runs easily. Brunt
struck getting rid of Wareham caught by Kerr at deep midwicket. Perry and
Wareham added 52 runs for the 6th wicket. Mumbai Indians restricted
RCB to a modest total of 131 for 6 in 20 overs. Sciver Brunt and Vastkar took 2
wickets each while Wong and Saika Ishaque grabbed 1 wicket each.
Chasing a
modest total of 132 runs to win, Yastika Bhatia showed intent right from the
word go putting enough pressure on RCB bowlers with great timing. Sophie Devine
eventually dismissed Bhatia with a good catch by Richa Ghosh. Yastika and
Mathews added 45 runs for the opening wicket. Hayley Mathews looked impressive
along with Brunt. At the end of the first six overs, MI raced to 60 for 1.
Mumbai
Indians ended the first timeout at 69 for 1. Soon after the timeout, Shreyanka
Patil struck getting rid of Mathews with a simple catch to Mandhana. Amelia
Kerr and Brunt kept the scoreboard ticking and hitting boundaries at will.
Patil produced a sensational save.
Brunt and
Kerr looked at ease keeping the momentum going for MI. Wareham struck getting
rid of Brunt caught by Molineux at backward point. Brunt and Kerr added 49 runs
for the 3rd wicket. Kerr and Vastkar completed the formalities
winning the match by 7 wickets with 29 balls to spare.
For her unbeaten
40 off 24 balls, Kerr was named the player of the match award. With this win,
MI moved to the top of the points table.
