All You Need To Know About Thomas Cup 2024

The 2024 Thomas Cup will be a big team event that comprises 3 singles and 2 doubles matches. It would serve as a great preparation for all the players for the Paris Olympics.

India stunned the badminton World as they became the champions of the Thomas Cup beating the likes of Malaysia, Denmark, and Indonesia to win the biggest team championship ever for the first time. Indian team qualified directly being the title holders last time. China made it into the tournament as being host.

The tournament will see a total of 16 teams divided into four groups. After the league stage, the top two teams in each group will qualify for the quarterfinals. Indian team would look to defend their title which would be not easy this time.

The draws for the prestigious event were held on 22nd March 2024. The teams were selected based on World Team rankings on 20th Feb. China, Denmark, Indonesia, and Japan were selected in Pot 1. Pot 2 comprised Chinese Taipei, India, Malaysia, and South Korea.

Pot 3 comprised Thailand, Canada, Hong Kong, and Germany. The final pot consisted of England, the Czech Republic, Algeria, and Australia.

  The defending Champions India registered a commanding win in the 2 nd semi-finals against South Korea of the Asian Champions Trophy 2024 played in Hulunbir, Inner Mongolia on 16 th September. Indian team began the first quarter on a good note with Abhishek's reverse flick shot saved by Korean goalkeeper Kim Jahean. After the initial domination, a superb pass by Arijit with a goal by Uttam Singh in the 13 th minute to give India a 1-0 lead.   The defending Champions England qualified for the semi-finals with a thrashing of the USA in a must-win game played at Kensington Oval, Barbados on 23 rd June 2024. England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and decided to field first. Reece Topley struck in the first over dismissing Andries Gous with a simple catch to Salt.
