ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8: Pat Cummins Picks First Hattrick Of The Tournament
The
Australian Cricket Team started their Super 8 campaign with 28 runs via the DLS
method against Bangladesh played at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua on 21st
June 2024.
Aussies
captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and decided to field first. Mitchell Starc
dismissed Tanzid Hasan cheaply putting Bangladesh's batting on the backfoot. Liton Das and Najmul Hasan Shanto struggled initially
before showing some intent. At the end of the first six overs, Bangladesh
scored 39 for 1.
Adam Zampa
got the much-needed breakthrough dismissing Das who tried to hit a big shot.
Das and Shanto added 58 runs for the 2nd wicket. Maxwell struck in
his first over getting rid of Rishad Hossain who was promoted to number 4.
Despite
some lovely strokes by Hridoy, Australian bowlers kept it tight restricting
Bangla Tigers to just 140 for 8 in 20 overs.
Chasing 141
runs to win, David Warner was given a reprieve with a drop catch chance. Warner
and Head showed intent putting the Bangladesh bowlers under immense pressure.
Both looked in sublime touch keeping scoreboard ticking and keeping Australia
on course for a comfortable win.
Australia raced
away to 59 for 0 at the end of the first six overs. With the scoreboard reading
64 for 0, the rain arrived, and the match was stopped.
Rishad
Hossain produced a lovely delivery to dismiss Travis Head. Head and Warner
added 65 runs for the opening wicket. The leg spinner struck again getting rid
of Australian captain Mitchell Marsh to give some hope for Bangladesh.
Warner
showed intent in keeping the momentum going, reaching fifty off 34 balls. With the
scoreboard reading 100 for 2, rain arrived again, and the match was stopped due
to heavy rain. Australia got 2 valuable points as they won by 28 runs.
Pat Cummins
became the 2nd Australian To Take Hattrick In T20 World Cups
Cummins
achieved a superb feat by becoming the 2nd Australian bowler to take
a hat trick in T20 World Cup history.
He
dismissed Mahmudullah and Mahedi Hasan off successive deliveries in the 18th
over. Cummins got rid of Hridoy during the first ball off the final over. It
was a tremendous bowling effort by Cummins with figures of 3 for 29.
Brett Lee
achieved this remarkable feat during the 2007 edition of the T20 World Cup
played in South Africa.
