ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8: West Indies Thrash USA To Stay Alive In The Tournament
The hosts
West Indies thrashed the USA to stay alive in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 played
in Kensington Oval, Barbados on 22nd June.
West Indies
captain Rovman Powell won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal
start for the hosts as Andre Russell dismissed Steven Taylor cheaply. Andres
Gous and Nitish Kumar provided a superb start, putting some pressure on the
West Indies bowling. At the end of the first six overs, the USA ended at 48 for
1.

Motie struck after the field restrictions got rid of Nitish Kumar. Nitish Kumar
and Gous put on 48 runs for the 2nd wicket. West Indies bowlers kept
picking wickets at regular intervals preventing USA batters from scoring runs
easily. Roston Chase bowled superbly dismissing Corey Anderson and Harmeet Singh.
West Indies bundled out USA for 128 in 19.5 overs. Andres Gous finished as the top
scorer for the USA with 29.

Chase took 3 for 19 while Russell ended with figures of 3 for 31 in 3.5 overs.
West Indies bowlers never let the USA getaway after a brisk start by Nitish
Kumar and Gous.
Chasing 129
runs to win, Shai Hope opened the innings replacing Brandon King. He looked in
sublime touch putting pressure on USA bowlers with aggressive intent. Hope just
showed his class making use of the batting conditions. At the end of the first
six overs, West Indies scored 58 for 0.
Johnson Charles’
struggle ended with a good catch by Nitish Kumar at the boundary. Charles and
Hope added 67 runs for the opening wicket. Hope reached fifty off just 26
deliveries keeping West Indies on course. Nicolas Pooran joined the party
smashing the USA bowlers. The hosts West Indies chased down the target in 10.5
overs. Hope remained unbeaten 82 off 39 balls with 4 fours and 8 sixes.
With this
massive win, West Indies moved to 2nd place with a positive net run rate of
1.184. They will now play South Africa which
could be a virtual knockout match if England manages to thrash the USA by a
massive margin.
