IND W vs SA One-Off Test Day 1 Highlight
The Indian
Women’s Cricket Team showed their dominating performance with a mammoth total in
the one-off test match against South Africa at M Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on
28th June 2024.
Indian
captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and decided to bat first. Shafali Varma
and Smriti Mandhana began off to a cautious start against disciplined South
African newball bowlers. After the initial struggle, the Indian openers showed
class playing attacking shots not allowing South African bowlers to settle.
Mandhana
looked impressive with fifty off 78 deliveries while Varma also reached
half-century from 66 balls. Indian openers kept the momentum going into the lunch
break at 130 for 0.
After the
lunch break, Indian openers kept the scoreboard ticking with attacking shots keeping
momentum going. It was a superb batting display by Shafali Varma not allowing
South African spinners to settle. Varma completed her maiden test century off
113 balls while Mandhana also completed her milestone from 122 balls. It was a
superb batting display by both Indian openers.
Tucker
eventually got the breakthrough for South Africa with a lovely piece of bowling
with a good catch by Deckersen at slips. Varma and Mandhana added a record-breaking
292 runs opening partnership. Shuba Sateesh looked impressive with her shots
keeping the momentum going for India. The left-handed Sateesh was caught by Jafta.
Sateesh and Shafali Varma added 33 runs for the 2nd wicket.
Varma
became the second Indian to score double century in Test matches. She reached the
milestone of 194 deliveries. It was a superb batting display by Shafali Varma
and Jemimah Rodrigues keeping the momentum going for India. The Indian team
went into the tea break at 334 for 2.
The third
session began positively for the Indian team with Varma and Rodrigues keeping the
scoreboard ticking. Shafali Varma was run out in a horrible mix-up. Rodrigues
and Varma added 86 runs for the 3rd wicket. Rodrigues and Kaur put
on another superb partnership that kept momentum.
Rodrigues
completed her fifty off 85 balls before trying to hit a rash caught by Klerk.
Rodrigues and Kaur added 39 runs for the 4th wicket. South African
captain Laura Woolvardt took the second new ball as Kaur and Richa Ghosh
maintained momentum with some lovely shots. It was a brilliant batting display
as the Indian team ended on record 525 for 4. Ghosh and Kaur added so far 75
runs for the 5th wicket.
For the South
African team, Delmi Tucker took 2 for 141 while Klerk grabbed 1 wicket in the
entire bowling effort.
