IND W vs SA W: Indian Women Register Clinical Win To Register Clean Sweep
The Indian
Women’s team registered a clinical win in the 3rd and final ODI match
against the visiting South African side played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru
on 23rd June 2024.
South African
captain Laura Woolvardt won the toss and decided to bat first. Woolvardt and
Brits began cautiously before putting some pressure with lovely shots by both
openers. At the end of the first 10 overs, South African women scored 46 for 0.
After the
field restrictions, Brits and Woolvardt continued to milk the Indian bowlers
with singles and boundaries easily. Woolvardt looked in sublime form with
positive strokes reaching fifty off 45 balls. South African openers kept the
momentum going before Arundhati Reddy took a stunning return catch to dismiss Woolvardt.
Woolvardt and Brits put on 102 runs for the opening wicket.
Brits were involved
in a horrible mix-up that ended her innings. Reddy took another superb return catch to
dismiss Anneke Bosch. Shreyanka Patil struck getting rid of Marizanne Kapp with
another soft dismissal. The Indian bowling kept it tight not allowing the South
African batters to score runs easily and pick wickets.
Pooja
Vastkar struck with another lovely delivery to dismiss Sune Luus. Shangase and
de Klerk put on a sensible partnership before another mix-up resulted in the
run out of Shangase. Shangase and Luus added 31 runs for the 6th
wicket. Deepti Sharma dismissed de Klerk and Mlaba off successive deliveries to
leave South Africa in trouble.
Ridder and Sekhukhune
fought for the South African team, adding 37 unbeaten runs for the 9th
wicket. South African women’s team posted 215 for 8 in 50 overs.
Chasing 216
runs to win, Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Varma started off to a positive start
with some lovely shots that kept the momentum going for the hosts. At the end
of the first 10 overs, the Indian women’s team raced to 53 for 0.
Shafali
Varma provided a simple catch to Bosch at backward point. Varma and Mandhana
added 61 runs for the opening wicket. Priya Punia looked in decent touch keeping
the scoreboard reading. Mandhana impressed with her superb form with fifty off
49 balls.
Khaka got
rid of Priya Punia caught by Bosch. Priya Punia and Mandhana added 62 runs for
the 2nd wicket. The experienced duo of Kaur and Mandhana kept the
momentum going for India with attacking strokes. Mandhana fell short of her 3rd
successive century of 10 runs. Mandhana and Kaur added 48 runs for the 3rd
wicket.
Kaur and
Jemimah Rodrigues put on another superb partnership that helped India on course
for a comfortable win. Kaur was dismissed with a direct hit by Brits. Kaur and
Rodrigues added 43 runs for the 4th wicket. Richa Ghosh hit the
winning runs with a six to help the Indian women’s team win by six wickets with
56 balls to spare.
Deepti
Sharma was named the player of the match for his figures of 2 for 27 in 10
overs. The Indian women’s team whitewashed the South Africa 3-0.
