Ind vs Zim 3rd T20I: India Take 2-1 Lead With Comprehensive Win
Under the
captaincy of Shubman Gill, the Indian Cricket Team registered a comprehensive
win over hosts Zimbabwe in 3rd One-day international match of the
series played at Harare Sports Club, Harare on 10th July 2024.
Indian
captain Shubman Gill won the toss and decided to bat first. Yashasvi Jaiswal
and Shubman Gill provided a flying start with positive intent right from the
word go not allowing the Zimbabwe opening bowlers to settle. It was an
aggressive start as both openers showed class making life tough for the hosts.
At the end of the first six overs, India moved to 55 for 0.
After the
field restrictions, Gill and Jaiswal struggled against disciplined Zimbabwe
bowlers. Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza got the breakthrough dismissing Jaiswal
caught at deep midwicket to end 67 runs-opening partnership. Abhishek Sharma
was demoted to number 3 and could not do much.
Shubman
Gill and Gaikwad took the advantage with 19 runs off Wesley Medhevere's bowling
changing the momentum in favor of India. Gill completed his fifty off 36 balls
maintaining the pressure on Zimbabwe bowlers. Muzarbani struck getting rid of
Indian captain Gill at long-off. Gill and Gaikwad added 72 runs for the 3rd
wicket.
Zimbabwe’s
fielding and catching were not great as they conceded 20 extra runs. Gaikwad
fell short of his fifty by 1 run. Sanju Samson ended the innings with a
boundary that helped India post 182 for 4 in 20 overs. For Zimbabwe, Muzarbani
and Sikandar Raza took 2 wickets each.
Chasing 183
runs to win, Medherve was dismissed off Avesh Khan’s first delivery. Khaleel
Ahmed struck getting the wicket of Marumani at mid-off. Ravi Bishnoi took a
stunning catch to dismiss Brian Bennett at backward point to leave Zimbabwe in
trouble.
At the end
of first six overs, Zimbabwe made 37 for 3. Washington Sundar struck on his
first delivery dismissing Raza caught by Rinku Singh. He dismissed John Campbell
in the same over to leave the hosts in deep trouble. Dion Mayers and Clive Madande
put on an excellent display of batting with positive shots against part-time bowlers
Abhishek Sharma and Shivam Dube.
Sundar got his
3rd wicket of the innings dismissing Madande. Mayers and Madande
added 77 runs for the 6th wicket. Mayers looked impressive scoring his
first T20I fifty off 45 balls. Wellington Masakadza and Dion Mayers put on an unbeaten
43 runs for the 7th wicket. Zimbabwe showed an improved performance
scoring 159 for 6 in 20 overs.
For his 3
for 15 in 4 overs, Washington Sundar was named the player of the match award.
India takes 2-1 lead in the 5-match T20I series. The fourth encounter will be
played on 13th July 2024.
