Paris Olympics 2024 Badminton: Indian Shuttlers Start On A Winning Note
The Indian
shuttlers including Lakshya Sen and doubles pairing of Satwik/Chirag Shetty
began the Paris Olympics on a winning note played in Paris on 27th July
2024.
Lakshya Sen
defeated Guatemala Kevin Cordon in a Group L match. It was a dominating
performance by the Indian keeping the pressure on the opposition with smashes. The
Indian dominated with smashes winning the first game easily by a scoreline of
21-8.
The second
game did not start well for the Indian as he committed lots of unforced errors.
Kevin Cordon looked impressive keeping momentum with an 11-6 lead at the mid-game
interval. After the break, Sen made a strong fightback and reduced the margin. Trailing
by 16-20, India showed great fighting spirit to take 6 points in succession and
won by 22-20 to start the tournament on a winning note.
One of the favorites
to win the title, Satwiksairaj and Chirag Shetty began the tournament on a
winning note defeating hosts Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar in two straight
games.
After a
slow start to the first game, Satwik/Chirag showed great attacking skills not
allowing the French pair to comeback into the game. At the mid-game break, the
Indians took an 11-6 lead. After the break, Satwik/Chirag maintained the lead,
winning the first game easily by 21-17.
The second
game also began with both players fighting for each point. Satwik/Chirag played
aggressive shots that kept the momentum going with an 11-8 lead at the break.
After the break, the Indians looked in great touch not allowing any chances to
their opponent winning it by 21-14.
They will
now face the German pair on 29th July. It promises to be an exciting
encounter as the top two in each group will qualify for the quarterfinals.
