Women’s Asia Cup 2024 1st Semi-Finals: Indian Women Thrash Bangladesh To Qualify For The Finals
The Indian
Women’s Cricket Team registered a dominating win in the first semi-finals of
the 2024 Asia Cup played in Dambulla on 26th July.
Bangladesh
captain Nigar Sultana won the toss and decided to bat first. Renuka Singh got
rid of Dilara Akther after being hit a six from the previous delivery. It was a
disciplined bowling effort by Indian bowlers keeping it tight and not allowing
Bangladesh batters to score runs easily.
Renuka Singh
dismissed Ishma Tanjim and Murshida Khatun to leave Bangladesh in deep trouble.
At the end of the first six overs, Bangladesh women made just 25 for 3.
Indian
bowlers kept it tight with a lot of dot deliveries. Radha Yadav struck in her
first over getting rid of Rumana Ahmed. Pooja Vastkar got a big wicket of Rabeya
Khan as Shafali Varma took a stunning catch. Nigar Sultana and Shorna Akther showed some
intent against top-quality Indian bowling. Radha Yadav bowled a superb final
over picking wickets of Nigar Sultana and Nahida Akther. Nigar and Shorna
Akther added 36 runs for the 7th wicket.
Chasing a modest
total of 81 runs to win, Smriti Mandhana looked in sublime touch putting enough
pressure on Bangladesh bowlers with positive strokes. Shafali Varma made the
batting look easy keeping the scoreboard ticking. Indian openers kept the
momentum going making 46 runs at the end of the first six overs.
Mandhana
made batting look easy with positive that made life tough for Bangladesh
bowlers. The stylish left-handed batter was given a reprieve as she was caught
off a no-ball. It was a superb batting display with Mandhana hitting some
brilliant shots and completing a fifty off 38 balls.
Shafali
Varma looked composed, giving most of the strike to Mandhana. Indian women’s
team continued their domination with 10 wickets win and qualified for the
finals. For her figures of 3 for 10 in 4 overs, Renuka Singh was named the
player of the match award.
