Women's Asia Cup 2024: Thailand Begins The Tournament On A Winning Note
Thailand began the 2024 Women's Asia Cup on a winning note with an unbeaten streak against Malaysia at Dambulla on 20th July.
Thailand captain Thipatcha Putthawong won the toss and decided to bat first. It was an aggressive start as the experienced Boochatam began the opening over with 3 lovely boundaries to put pressure on the Malaysia bowlers. Subaika produced a peach to dismiss Chaihan.

Eleesa struck in her first over dismissing Boochatam with a simple catch to Ismail.
Nannapat Konchareonaki looked impressive putting the bad deliveries away for
boundaries. At the end of the first six overs, Thailand made 44 for 2.
The off-spinner
Ismail got rid of Thailand's captain Putthawong to put them under immense
pressure. Maya and Nannapat steadied the ship for Thailand keeping the scoreboard
ticking with singles and hitting boundaries. Ismail struck off successive deliveries
to get rid of Nannapat and Sutthirung. Nannapat and Maya added 48 runs for the
4th wicket. Khiato and Kanoh put on some valuable runs, in the end,
to help Thailand post a competitive total of 133 for 6. Ismail was the pick of
bowlers with 3 for 16 in 4 overs.
Chasing 134
runs to win, Wan Julia and Malaysian captain Durasingham looked in good touch
against disciplined Thailand bowling. Julia kept the scoreboard ticking with
positive strokes keeping momentum going for Malaysia. Malaysia made 36 runs at
the end of the first six overs.
After the
field restrictions, Julia and Durasingham kept the momentum going for Malaysia
keeping their hopes alive of winning. Kampchomphu got the breakthrough by dismissing
Durasingham. Julia and Durasingham added 68 runs for the opening wicket.
Malaysia
kept losing wickets at regular intervals while Julia remained steady with a half-century
off 50 balls. Julia was run out while attempting the second runout to derail Malaysia’s
hopes of winning. Malaysia made 111 for 8 in 20 overs falling short by 22 runs.
For her 40 off 35 balls, Nannapat was named the player of the match award.
