Asian Champions Trophy 2024: Indian Men’s Hockey Team For The Tournament Announced

The defending Champions India will take part in the prestigious continental Asian Champions Trophy tournament to be played from 8th to 17th September in Hulunbir, Inner Mongolia in China.

Harmanpreet Singh would lead the side. Vivek Sagar Prasad has been appointed as the vice-captain for the tournament. A Few key players like Mandeep Singh, Hardik Singh, Lalit Upadhyay, Shamsher Singh& Gurjant Singh will be rested for this tournament.

The Indian team will see two young goalkeepers namely Krishna Pathak and Suraj Kakera for this prestigious tournament. Jarmanpreet Singh, Amit Rohidas, Harmanpreet Singh, Jugraj Singh, Sanjay & Sumit will look to continue their superb form in the defense.

The likes of Abhishek, Sukhjeet Singh, Arajijeet Singh, Uttam Singh &debutant Gurjot Singh would comprise of forwards.  Raj Kumar Pal, Nilkanta Sharma, Manpreet Singh & Mohammad Raheel will consist of midfielders.

The Indian team will look to defend their title as they defeated Malaysia in a thrilling final played in Chennai in 2023.

“The new Olympic cycle for us begins with the Asian Champions Trophy and we are ready for the challenge. While we have rested a few players from the squad that played in Paris, we have brought in a few youngsters who have done well in training and have earned the opportunity to play in the Asian Champions Trophy. We will have Gurjot making his international debut, and I believe this is a great opportunity for youngsters who have received a call-up to shine. As a team, we want to continue to dominate in the Asian continent and we will go to China to retain the title,” asserted Fulton.

This tournament will see the likes of China, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea &Pakistan taking part. After the league stage, the top four teams would qualify for the semi-finals.

Under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Singh, the Indian men's hockey team defeated Spain by 2-1 to win a bronze medal for the second successive medal in the Olympics.

  The Indian shuttlers had a disappointing outing as only one of them made it into the quarterfinals of the Super 1000 Malaysia Open 2025 played at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur on 9 th January. HS Prannoy, women’s doubles pair of Tressa Jolly suffered narrow losses while Bansod, mixed doubles pair of Crasto/Kapila, and other pair lost in a one-sided affair. Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand suffered a heartbreaking loss to Jia Ya Fan and Zhang of China in three thrilling games.   The Indian shuttlers had a disappointing day with only 2 of them progressing into the second of the Super 750 Singapore Open 2025 played on 27 th May. PV Sindhu eased past WY Zhang of Canada in two straight games. It was a dominating performance by former World champion putting the opponent under immense pressure. She won the match with a dominating scoreline of 21-14, 21-9 to move into the second round. It will be tough ask as Sindhu will face Chen Yu Fei of China.
